Thank you, all, for great advice. I will surely use a Ziploc bag to protect my new camera from condensation because now I understand what weather-sealed means. On the "frozen fingers" problem that I experience here in northern WI, I think I have the answer. Long adjustable mitten clips along with super-warm mittens and hand warmers should work fine. Don't mind having my fingers exposed (the best way for me to handle and operate my camera) if I have a warm place to tuck them into when I am not shooting. Allowing the mittens to dangle (instead of trying to hold them with my teeth) will also make outdoor photography way more doable for the next *too many* months!! Again, thanks to the many who offered great advice! Love being able to jump on this site and get questions answered. Cheers!

1. Use a bag. You avoid risking a problem, and you keep condensation from forming on the lens and EVF, which would prevent you from using the camera for quite some time.

2. Put an SLR ProDot Shutter Button on your shutter. I have them on all of my winter sports cameras. You can shoot with gloves on with these, so you only need to get exposed if you have to change settings. Set your camera so you don't need to adjust it, and you will be good at very low temps.

3. Get a pair of photo gloves, which allow you to just expose your finger rather than your entire hand. I have a pair of AquaTech, which also have a cord that lets you pull the glove and dangle it from your wrist, as well as openings for index finger and thumb. I also have a pair of ProMaster goves, that have slots you can stick your index finger and thumb through.

These are the shutter buttons;

Also, get hand warmers.

On the shutter buttons, I read that they fall off. That was on Amazon. Does B & H have a better product? Do you have problems with them not adhering?

I am mainly wanting to know about condensation—cold to warm conditions.

Taking delivery on the Sony RX10IV with great excitement. I am wondering about the claim of it being "weather sealed." Photography in northern WI gets tricky in the winter. First challenge is to keep fingers from falling off! Second thing is to give the camera adequate protection when returning to the warmth of indoors. Is this camera sealed against condensation? Is that what "weather sealing" means, or does it still need to sit awhile wrapped in plastic? Looking also for a recommendation for photographer gloves that do not cost a fortune because I spent all monies on the camera! Thank you.

I just spent hours watching Sony RX10iv on YT, every review I could find. Also talked to B & H. Made the decision to sell my almost-new Nikon P1000—losing money :(—and buy a used Sony bridge. I loved the zoom on the Nikon, especially for moon shots, but, of course, it looks the same each month, so I decided there are other features I would rather have. I pray this is the last camera that calls to me. This hobby can bankrupt one!

I am amateur, amateur, but I love the Nikon P1000. I shoot RAW (unless I use a Scene mode) and use Lightroom to get the look I want. I also have a great little Sony (RX100VI) if I need to put my camera in my pocket or purse. The Nikon won't fit! ;) I would not want to be without either one of these cameras.

A am an advocate of understanding the reasons for shooting raw and then deciding what format to shoot based on that, rather than "always shoot this format".

There are reasons to shoot raw, and reasons to shoot JPEG. But there seems to be a misnomer that shooting raw will automatically result in a better quality image. That is not the case. And for a natural looking, well exposed image, a JPEG will look as good as the raw, and with a lot less work.

OK! I like this bit of advice!! :)

Yes! I have experienced that! If in a high contrast situation, I usually shoot with the camera's bracket options or in HDR and then merge in Lightroom. Results are generally ok. I think I am a low-expectation, for-fun shooter! Love to read all the comments. I bet I will get pushed to strive for more.

So far, great and helpful comments. Thank you. I need to process all the info. I know that RAW has many advantages; not sure yet that they apply to me at the level of expectation I work at. I want my online images to pop and look awesome; like I wrote, I have never printed anything. :(. Maybe that is my problem! Love this group! ❤️

I am amateur, amateur. I shoot with the Nikon P1000 and Sony RX100 VI. Both cameras appealed to me because of their RAW capabilities. I have decent competency in Lightroom. My question is: I see minimal difference (if any) after processing RAW and jpeg files. Am I missing something? I don't print; I shoot only to preserve digitally the fine times in my life with family and eye-catching things in nature. Does the better quality show up only in print?

This does not work for the P1000. A waste of money, but at least it didn't cost much.
