This is a good video as it does illustrate the problem. I love the folks here who say criticize the vulgarization of a serious problem and call it propaganda.

What this does is show the reality of a society going bad.

Love the 74 old geezer here: Look at the tax rate when he was a young man 91% tax rate for the high income. Now the same folks pay 10% if not less due to all the exemptions, credits and loop holes.

http://taxfoundation.org/article/us-federal-individual-income-tax-rates-history-1913-2011-nominal-and-inflation-adjusted-brackets *

I am all for rewarding folks for their work, capability and innovation but I am also against a system that stacks the odds and allow the top earners (including silver spoon leeches - heirs) to get away with contributing next to nothing to our country finances.

The don't tax the rich so that they can invest is bullshit to anyone who objectively look at the past. The funny part (but sad really) is that all the morons who call themselves from the 'conservative side' are uneducated incredibly naive poor who think that they will win the lotto and then benefit from their idiotic stance.

As to the arguably exaggerated political doctrine, since when showing the process that led to the current 'GOP political doctrine'? Since when is teaching historical data (see link) in a way that is easy to understand wrong, biased and politicized?

If you want to show bias, bigotry and promote an agenda, just read the tone of the post itself and the 'followers' who agree w/o a second thought.

* While this link gives the impression that the top earners were paying 91% this is not true. The 91% applied on anything above the 'level' income, meaning that the tax calculation was a bit iffy.

Hi Lucian,

BUT -- that 26 miles you mention is only 22 miles !!! Maybe you're talking about some place other than Europe ?
If you consider the Jersey Island (not really part of anything - except being badly defended by the UK - Only British protectorate invaded by the German in WWII) the distance is even smaller... :-D
Truth to be told the UK is from a few miles (what is 22???) to a couple of hundred, depending where you measure...

As to English_Wolf, everyone knows that I am French, not English and certainly not a wolf!!!
Also, if you had read the Brits and French always have had a feud and call each other roast-beef and frog respectively. As to Europe? You should have read what I think of Europe in the previous posts, in this thread.

If you take the sitcoms as proof of the US capability to joke about themselves, you are right. Yet the Americans are able to joke about themselves too but like every humor you have to be 'born' into it to understand what the heck is going on.
I do not know of any nation who cannot joke about their own foibles yet the Brits do it in such a way that not only you have to be (as said before) born into it but also you have to develop a taste for it EVEN if you are a Brit!!! (That is the hard part - I sadly have the sad duty  to report that I know a few Brits who find it too demeaning and exaggerated!)

The British policies have long been anti-Europe or more precisely anti-dominant country. When the German (or Teutons/Prussians) were dominating they allied themselves with the french and or Spain. When the french were more powerful they allied themselves with their former enemies and Austria. Their wars with Spain, Portugal and Italy were about their colonies and their dominance on the sea.

It is no rocket science to understand that it was about staying independent both politically (monarchy claims) and economically. Any dominant countries could have strangled England and killed any and all desires of independence.

Now that the UK is not a powerful naval entity, does not have the economic pull due to its extinct colonial empire they have to adapt to a brand new world that is not exactly friendly toward the roast-beef. Europe is now a dissonant block that does not inspire ANY confidence as it not a democracy nor even a representative republic. With that how can the in-bred Brits want to become of it?

Charles De Gaule was right when he said that the UK should be invited only once when Europe is strong and mature enough to let them in. (Note that De Gaule version of Europe did not include any of the states called democracies in Eastern Europe. His vision was limited to Germany, Luxemburg, Denmark, Italy, Spain and Austria. Had this been respected Europe would have been something else than the utter mess that it is now. It also would be likely democratic. The whole damned thing started with the 'Serpent European' which was a monetary alliance between the a fore mentioned countries).

Europeans, especially the legless frogs are complaining of the US push toward economic globalization when in reality they started spreading it in cahoot with Germany. (For the little story, the first global company was a US tobacco outfit (1880s), jump started with the invention of a machine to create pre-rolled cigarettes).

In short, the Brits are just squeezed out and they don't like it. What better way to prevent their exclusion than mess with Europe?

The claim made earlier about the language is as dubious as Quebec claiming to 'speak' French. They do speak something that sound like French but the meaning of the words are different. In this case, they have preserved the old meaning and never created new words that follow progress. In the case of the UK this is the reverse, the quaint terms used in the UK are all good and true but do not reflect the need for linguistic progress as made in the US. Instead they had to include 'Americanism' in their dictionaries.

This is another thing that really bugs the Brits, being squeezed out of their own language by the fat ugly Americans.

What is left? Their self depreciating humor. This is unique, and as Basil said: "You just don't get it!!!'

(sorry about the misspellings and grammar blunders but I am a frog and some roast-beef is boiling my legs somewhere)

As long as the English boil their meat they will never amount to anything so they can stay in their island and proclaim all they want. Then again they do not hop like the frogs.

Monty Python is the true expression of the British humor. It not for nothing that you find the same wacky sketches in Fawlty Towers...

Well, the best solution is to have a signed contract of maintenance that declare 'We are not responsible for any data loss'.

That said, to make sure I have no bad surprise, I just backup the damned thing on an external hard disk that gets erase two weeks after the PC is back...

Another thing I have started doing a couple years ago is when I install/reinstall I use the library system to point to the 'other drive' (a partition) and point this out to the client while warning him or her that all software do not respect windows settings...

To back to the original question. Do not upgrade to Windows 8. Regardless of what is said, this OS is an 'interim release' as usual. Microsoft is known for making incredible mistakes with their OS. Look at their OS Vista then Windows 95. For some reason I have always felt that this company is walking backward BEFORE moving software.

That said (for the panorama shooters) MS has a free panorama software that works well but not as fast as they claim.... They have a video on YOUTUBE that shows how fast it is BUT they start after the images are loaded. That tricks the viewer. In reality the loading of the images is the main part of the process so it TAKES time.

While the panoramas appear distorted at first glance, zoom in and check them out.

Sorry to disappoint you. I am a MSCE and work with windows for a living. If you took the time to read what is being said about windows 8 (even by MS) you would see that this OS is pure crap for the IT world WITH the exception of tablets.
Been working with Windows since window 286, if you remember that version.

Among the troubles you will run into:
The start menu has been modified in such a way that many application will not even be listed unless your start them (using explorer) then pin them onto the menu. It also has limited customization (like reverting to 'windows classic' - what ever that means). It suffers from the same illness that all windows version have: upgrade galore. Last time I installed it, it needed 4, that was three weeks ago. Now, how many?

When folks toot MAC I would agree if it was not for the premium cost. Those that promote any version of Linux forget that while this is the least expensive (free) OS that exist for the desktop/laptop it still is a geeky S that has a steep learning curve (and the hardware drivers are not always available).

You seem to be looking only at the OS upgrade not the laptop itself, IF I read you correctly.
My answer is: Don't.
Windows 8 is not a good OS. It is made for touch screen for starter. It will not work adequately with a 'regular' laptop or PC. From the ground up it is made for the newer 'tablets' and is a sign of things to come: small stuff that is not photo friendly.

Other info:
Touch screen on laptop or desktop. Win 8 is insane as to get the most of it you either run a mouse marathon in each cession or end up with your right or left shoulder pain. Raise your arm, swipe, touch, do whatever (still arm raised, elbow not allowed - would sit on the keyboard) then look for the mouse as you had to let go the damned rodent.
One who wants a physical challenge, other than mere carpal tunnel, is a serious candidate with this crappy OS.
On the other end, if this is a public access point this OS makes sense as long as it at 30 degree angle and does not use a mouse or keyboard but then again, this already exist, why reinvent the wheel?

So, NO NO NO Unless you are masochist....

This just shows how short sighted you are. Had you paid attention one of the policies established early on by the Zionist state was: "never a victim again" (Ben-Gurion? speech) and that translated into being the perpetrator vs the victim. The UN decision to create Israel was mainly made because of the holocaust and nothing else.

As to the brits left to handle the bucket of shit... Wrong. Had the UK followed through with the treaties passed during the Ottoman empire destruction this mess will never had happened. This was post WWI by the way, the holocaust had not happened yet and was not even in the horizon.

Then again, you can type whatever you want you just cannot refute modern history in the middle east. You should start to catch up because all the middle east modern countries have existed for less than 100 years.

Iran, turkey, Egypt have existed under other names for at least a millennium. Anything in between, essentially the middle east peninsula, is the result of the brits war against the ottoman empire* (Turkey) which took over from the Persian empire (Iran).

* Ended in the Damascus accords that allowed the brits to divide the entire peninsula at their whim, selecting the tribes that helped them defeat the Ottoman empire. Laurence of Arabia was adamant at the time that a Jewish state was to be created. The Balfour accord in the twenties left Palestine and Israel as a UK dominion. A bucket of shit of their own making. Now the dung has spread all over thanks to the US 'intervention' in the middle east post WWII, during the cold war, and more specifically to the short sighted moronic policies and promises made by the 'Dulles brothers' (one was secretary of state and the other, Allen, was overseeing the CIA 1953~1961 as the 'director of central intelligence' - or lack thereof).

** Start your reading with the Ottoman empire and it's alliance with Germany during WWI then continue with Ben-Gurion who wanted to claim all of Palestine as well as parts of Jordan, Syria and Lebanon in order to 'recreate the biblical Israel.
