I've always wanted to do pictures like these, especially since there are an abundance of opportunities for this kind of thing. I'm from Sullivan County NY, some of you may be familiar with the Catskill hotels, where I live is actually where all of them are abandoned and like similar to this. There has only been one photographer who has gone one of them to take pictures, this because these places are still very much owned by someone and are considered "private property" (one of his relatives owned the particular hotel) though it's very unlikely the owners themselves have seen them in maybe decades.

I've been trying for about a year now to find owners so i can access them with permission and not illegally but i haven't had any luck.

I'm not sure if this has been asked before but does anyone know of any places, besides adorama, that sells used photography equipment like lenses and stuff? Even lighting would be great. I wanna expand what I have but I have to do that on a college student budget.

Thank you!

It's a good thing that I came across this thread, I'm doing pictures for a fireman's parade and fair during the month of august and they told me the other day that they are doing Fireworks too, they aren't expecting pictures of the fireworks but I figured it would be a good to take my try at.

I have a smaller kit right now, i'm trying to get another lens by august but not sure which one, the 2 lenses I would be using is:

Nikkor 18-15mm
Nikkor 55-200mm

I also have a wide range of filters to that I use to get certain affects and to reproduce colors.

Any suggested settings for these would be great! =D

I too have this camera and the typical lenses have 2 settings sometimes that have the slide switch to change them there is the switch between auto and manual focus, and on my lenses I also have another switch like that but it's to turn the vibration reduction on and off (used to eliminate shaky hands, or the effects of standing on something that is moving sometimes). Sometimes I find when i use the vibration reduction setting it tends to seem out of focus for some reason, I mostly keep it off, on rare occasion do i use it.

I've just planned my first vacation to Myrtle beach in April for the week of the Easter holiday. It's the first time i'm going away on a beach like destination and doing my photography stuff there. Since I'm very unfamiliar with it i'm looking for suggestions on what things I would need to make shooting easier, things to protect my camera and what not. Also some pointers and tips would be great too. If anyone also knows of some really great places to see and take pictures or even just go to that would be Great!

For me I think there are a few reasons why.

It gives me something to concentrate on to take my mind off of things when things get hectic, it gives me a place to be creative and be myself.

Though I think the major reason for me is, photography gives you almost like a different vision of things, it makes you look at things differently, like you can look at the most typical things say like a cup of coffee and see the beauty in it, like how the light comes across it and makes a shadow. But when you see the beauty in things you are able to capture it on the camera to share it with others.

To me it gives me a new look on things, especially when i'm in the frame of mind to get some pix.

Yeah it is the tree at Rockefeller Center, it was sooo hard to get to this weekend, they had the streets around it practically closed off because how bad it was. We go into the city about every other weekend, we have about an hour train ride in, I think this is the worse I have ever seen it, even during Christmas time.

Thank you for the complement, I took sooo many down there because the weather and light was perfect, I had a hard time choosing just these few, lol.

This past Sunday, my boyfriend and I decided to take the train into Manhattan for the day to see Christmas decorations, because it was and unseasonably 60 degrees out, so it was perfect walking weather.

Here are a few of the pix that I took, some constructive criticism would be great, i'm always trying to find ways to improve or to just learn new things!

On the subject of the moisture absorbers can someone point me in the right direction of some to buy online? I'm going to be in Manhattan doing some pictures of the Christmas displays and the famous tree.......so i'm going to be outside for a while. I plan on going in at times to warm up so the moisture absorbers seem like a good idea. However if anyone has any other cold weather tips for DSLR's it would def be handy =)
