I just shot 3 boys(10,8 and 5yrs old) on snow-mobiles that we sold to their grandparents and have a beautiful planter with photo inserts that we will be giving to them for Christmas! All of my photos need to be "weeded out"! Time is all I need but what I've done over 52 yrs(I'm 70)I love sharing and giving away...don't need the money..did some photos for a St Bernard magazine...not for money....years ago had some "viewings" and sold some....but not now.

In addition to what I added on the "retirement" subject I wanted to add a few more things after reading every bodies posts. We have been volunteering for about 7 yrs now and the last 4 yrs have been at a different food pantry..the first one we worked at was a fresh, exciting experience but the "clientele" had brand new pick-up trucks, $700 phones and "tats" to beat the band at about $1,000 worth..in other words the was no control who was qualified for all the free food every month..then we found our recent Pantry...what a difference..W2's were in order and these families really need our help...135 families and 346 people! And my husband and I kick in, with another couple every month $100.00 worth of bread(at a wholesale Freyhoffer store)my friend and I do the shopping every month. Last year I managed to get 120 turkeys for Thanksgiving for a grocery store for only $.49 a pound...and this year I went back to beg some more and got 130 turkeys for $.65 a pound...it was great handing out free turkeys!

Its been 8 1/2 yrs since we designed and built our retirement home on 150 acres and our health was really great up until 3 months ago. My husband has metastatic melanoma stage IV....laser radiation(brain) and Keytruda IV for everything else...we had to miss our pantry day today because of another doctor appointment but we still kicked in all the bread! Our friends and our family(we have no kids) have called and helped us out setting up the snow plows(now we have someone do our 1/4 mile driveway)winterizing all the "stuff" and putting everything away for the winter(we're in Northern NY...snow country and love it)

We'll get through this and hopefully continue our wonderful retirement....I'm 70yrs and he's 67yrs, and hope and pray we have more birthdays....

We planned and paid all our bills off for the "toys" we have and grow our own food and get our grass fed beef, turkeys and chickens and of course eggs from good friends....home cook all the food for our dog(8 1/2 yrs old St Bernard)

To keep me going I remember 21 yrs ago when my mother went through the same thing only gone in 8 months...God will only give what He knows you can handle...I sure hop so.

I worked during the September 11, 2001 at the Greater Pittsburgh Airport, at age 54...the next day put in for my retirement the following April when I turned 55...never looked back, I was born retired. Don't get me wrong I loved my job...but I love retirement better..now I'm 70 yrs young and every day is a Saturday/Sunday...up at 0530 and don't sit until dinner(I'm an excellent cook and love it). Live in the middle of 150 acres in Northern New York and just watched and photographed 8 deer 10 ft off my front porch....we have a 1/4 mile driveway, wooded with a gate, very private. Have many festivities, parties, entertainers ice skating(on a pond we have behind a cabin in the woods) for the kids, and the older Kids. I love macro photography, especially in the spring and summer, I'm an avid perennial gardener and I love my flowers, bugs and all kinds of "critters"(deer, black bears, fishers, snowshoes, coyotes, wild turkeys, etc). And to this day I don't know how I managed a full time job, house, shopping, all meals, gardens, fishing, hunting, etc. They say sitting is the new smoking, believe it just get up and take your camera and open your eyes to the most wonderful surroundings you'll every see! Because this time on earth is not a "dress rehearsal".

Good luck and happy shooting,

Cookie

I bought my NikonD810 through B & H over NIkon. It came down to Nikon calling my home phone after I gave them my CC at a time I was not suppose to know to verify CC card holder!!! Theres more but thats in a "nutshell". I went to B&H and gave them my CC and they sent it that day..... I purchased my Epsons from them and many other things....you are correct they have answered many of my questions in the past, promptly. My uncle who was a Pro Photographer told me about them, he wasn't wrong.....

It took me one year(way back when) to decide to go from film to Nikon D100....then another year to go from Dell to Mac...never looked back. Took me one month to buy Nikon D810...and now there is Nikon D850, Oh My! And no I don't "shoot" for money, just pleasure. I've waited my whole life to do what I'm doing and where I'm living and now I'm thinking of buying D850! What a great combo! I'm sure my husband will "blink" a lot but I'll ALWAYS refer to his Gun Collection(which I do enjoy shooting those also).

I don't usually jump in but as far as Epson is concerned I have Epson P-600,(excellent quality prints) Epson XP-960(great for scanning and also smaller prints) and Epson NX-420( for quick copies and scanning)...recently buried Epson inkjet 2200, had it for 10 yrs was great but had to move on....

My point is if you spend $ on your favorite camera equiptment and not on your printers its like buying a Lexus and putting "mud flaps" over your tires and a pair of dice over your rear view mirror and running it over "hill and dale and mud ravines".

Still a "newbie"!

After a long winter(North of the Adirondacks)and putting suet out for birds we noticed most were torn down....then hanging them on my clothes line...which was completely destroyed...so, camera came out and "there he was" big as life...Pa Pa Bear about 400lbs and hungry...no more suet! At first we thought it was a raccoon, oops. And he was about 10-15 feet away from my back porch! Many times! So I"m armed and dangerous when I 'M out and about....150 acres to scout.

I'd be more afraid of Mama and cub more than Big Daddy...You were very smart and safe!

Thanks for your input...I'm very much aware of megapixels...that was a determining factor in purchasing the D810...but I petered on the D500 due to the 10fps for my "birds"...but I'm more of a macro person soooo mp prevailed....as for "thick skin" I worked with the general public for 34 yrs and am always willing to get in the battle of the wits...as long as they come armed!

Cost isn't the factor for me so what would you recommend to purchase for a macro FX for D810? I have an older 55mm 3.5 that I usually use on manual and still has great pics....also have 105mm 2.8 D both used on D100/D200 good results

The D100 and D200 are both older crop sensor bodies. The D810 is a new full frame sensor body that is 36 megapixels. The other two bodies have way fewer megapixels. (6MP and 10MP)

Some advice to newbies:
Always upload jpg images
Check the box the says Store Originals so we can see the EXIF
Use the Quote Reply button when replying back to someone, that way they know what you are commenting back about.

Welcome to the Hog.

Oh, and ignore some of the more gruff comments here. You sometimes need some thick skin when people make rude comments.
The D100 and D200 are both older crop sensor bodie... (show quote)

Thanks to you all, this really helps me understand better...especially to "fldiverman"..The DX and FX format...I printed it out for reference....so D100, D200 are DX and D810 is FX.....right?
