I'm getting tired of lugging my D 850 kit and want to lighten the load. Even with a 24-120 f4 it becomes a bear and is large. For the Z6 II my basic kit would be a 24-70 f4, (replacing my existing 24-70 f 2.8/24-120 f4) and the 24-200 f4-6.3 replacing my 70-200 f 2.8 (no Nikon 70-200 f4 in the works) and I would continue to share an 80-400 f4-5.6 with my wife.

Then I read an article by Ken Rockwell that recommended switching to Canon Either the EOS R or R6 with a better lens system including the 24-105 f4 and 70-200 f4. The EOS R would be essentially an even trade while the EOS R6 would cost an additional $1,200. Weight of the two new systems is a non-issue.

I'm primarily a landscape/ travel photographer with some wildlife. Will I miss the D 850 45 pixels? The newer R6 only has 20 MP while the older R has 30 while the Z6 II has 24 MP.

I would love to hear from some that have made this leap.

Be fussy, you paid for new, get what you paid for. Unless the promised adjustment is worth it.

Nice shot. You might increase the exposure a bit.

for this I would only go to Nikon USA Service. You can google it for the full address.

Thank you very much, Larry :)

Also, transferring by cable uses a lot of battery power.

[quote=riderz49]Nikon just released a firmware update for the D850 that enables the use of CFExpress cards, which are faster than the identically formatted XQD cards.

Is there any substantial reason to install the update?

Any reason to "upgrade" to CFExpress?[/quote
Keep your expensive camera up to date. Or, why not?

24-105 on 1 body, 100-400 on the other, 4 batteries & charger. Leave the tripod, 24-70, 16-35, 70-200. Sounds like an awesome adventure!

I went for 3 weeks last year with: two bodied (D800 and D850). I rented a 14-35 f2.8 to substitute for my 16-35 f4 for night sky shots (only used it twice). On safari in truck I had a 70-200 f 2.8 and 24-70 f 2.8 mounted (you don't want to change lenses in the field) and put a 100-400 on my wife's D 7500. If you are on private game preserves the vehicles can go off road to get closer to the action so 70-200 covers 95 % of your needs. If you will be on public land, the 100-400 will be your go to lens, leave the 70-200 home. If I were to do it again, I would leave the 24-70 f 2.8 home and take a 24-120 f 4 as my general walk around. F 2.8 isn't necessary except for night work so save the weight and get f 4 70-200. You can't use a tripod in the vehicles and most offer beanbags. I used a platypod in lieu of a tripod for night work.

Yes but would consider the Z7 which was just out when I bought my 850.

By the way, there have been SIGNIFICANT improvements in LR since 2014 all for the cost of a couple of lattes.

Depends on how much printing you do.
The Epson P800 is a great printer. It's replacement, the P900 is being released any day now.
Stay away from the smaller version of these printers (P600 and P700)
The ink cartridges are much smaller, resulting in an almost double cost per ml.

Agree, I replaced my old Epson 3880 with the P800 a few years ago. Its paper handling is far superior to the older model. It's a great printer!
