Lightroom 5.7 updating?

I've been using Lightroom 5.7 since 2014, like it, and have seen no reason to upgrade. Especially since I'm not enthusiastic about subscription software.

But now I have to move to a new computer. Adobe no longer provides installation files for LR 5.7. Anyone know a workaround?

Maybe I'll just need to switch to Lightroom CC. But it appears that there's no way of importing LR 5.7 catalog.

Long felt annoyance with Adobe is boiling over!

Do you no longer have the installation files on your computer?. They should be there unless you explicitly deleted them. Of course you'll also need the serial number.

I wasn't keen on the subscription thing either. However, I'm liking it now and it isn't at all expensive.

You're probably SOL on version 5 if you haven't carefully saved your own copies of the original install files. The LRCAT is fully importable to the new LR software. When you subscribe and install LR Classic and then start LR, it should recognize your existing LR software and prompt to import into the new LRCAT. Even if it didn't, you should be able to go into the File menu within LR and say 'import from catalog' and import into the new software by pointing to the older LRCAT file.

LRCC is not the same thing as LR Classic.

Take satisfaction you delayed paying more money to Adobe by 6 years (6 x $120 = $720). Alas, without your timemachine, you can't go back and force yourself to save the install file(s) for some important moment in the future. Consider doing today this step for your future self.

I never cease to be amazed by these people who bitch, moan, and groan about paying $10.81/mo. for the best post processing software out there. That screaming that you hear are those pennies being pinched.

LR is no longer available stand alone. But you can import your LR catalog to the subscription version of LR.

Maybe you can use Elements instead? It’s still available stand alone.

But if you OWN the LR 5.7, you should be able to run it on the new computer, just copy it over and enter the license code, so where is the problem?

If your really annoyed with Adobe then buy another software and use that instead. There are a lot of other choices.

Yet they buy the latest computers $$$$ and cameras $$$$ but can't justify the ¢¢¢¢ it costs to upgrade to and maintain current software. It's like buying a brand new Aston Martin but trying to devise a means to use the tires you saved when you junked your Prius. SMH . . .

It's time to spend some bucks and upgrade the program. You say LR 5.7 does everything you need. You will probably be pleasently surprised by what you can do with new Lightroom.

Great idea. Try PS Elements first. Might be all you need. Do they have a trial version.

If you registered & have your serial number for LR 5.7 you can get on Adobe's web site & download it to the new computer. Even if you didn't record the serial number your number is listed with Adobe if you registered it. I recently did this & continue to use my stand alone version on the new computer. You can get on The Lightroom Queen's site where she gives instructions how to do this. If the older stand-alone software works for you go for it. I myself am content with my original & feel no need to keep up with the Jone's!

I'm continuing to use LR 6, and I've installed it on several computers over the years. Are you sure you don't have the installation file in your Download folder? I have "Set-up", 2,766 KB. I also have "Setup64" for LR 5.0. Do a search for "Setup" and Set-up" and see what you find.

You may be able to find something on eBay that may or may not work. Here's a full program (6.0) from England.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Adobe-Photoshop-Lightroom-6-Software-CD-Win-Mac-in-Original-box-Free-UK-P-P/184478689800?epid=644042545&hash=item2af3c96a08%3Ag%3AI2oAAOSwXYJffb0Q&LH_BIN=1

And from the USA, version 5

When LR stops working for me, for whatever reason, I have several other processing programs I can use. I'm paying $10/month for too many things now.

By the way, there have been SIGNIFICANT improvements in LR since 2014 all for the cost of a couple of lattes.

Don't lose your software. The downloaded installation files of any software that you acquire are just as precious as a program on a CD/DVD. Don't lose them, and don't count on the authors of said software to always make them available for you to download. They will not do so forever. And don't leave them in your downloads folder. "Downloads" is best used as a temporary folder, not a permanent archive.

Create a new folder in your user folder for these programs...such as C:\Users\YourUserName\ZipFiles and download or save these installation files (usually a .zip or .exe file) to this folder. Execute and install from there. Leave them there. Include this folder in your backup plan.

I call mine ZipFiles, but it could be anything, and I've never lost a program that I owned.

If you can get Adobe to give you the LR5 download, this is certainly the cheapest approach, with no costs other than the 'hold' time for the agent to connect via the online chat. I upgraded back in March 2018 from v5 to v6 for just the upgrade price, even though Adobe had officially stopped selling the standalone v6 software at that point. I can point to subtle differences / improvements in how the cloning / healing works, where the $80 difference can almost be justified. For a rather mature product like Lightroom, if you're not changing your cameras, newer versions of LR are not adding phenomenal new capability, no matter how much Kool-Aid you swill.
