Thank You all vey much for your comments.

I agree with many things that were said, but do not have problems with some of the other things that bothered some. I like my D800, but as I get older I find it getting heavy and a tripod is not always and option. I am much steadier on the Z than the D800.

I kept the D800 as well and what is always amazing to me is I can still use the lenses I bought for my NikonF in 1965 (with some modification).

I have owned SLRs Minolta and Nixon since 1961. I just purchased my first mirrorless camera, the Nikon Z6. It is a beautiful camera. While I still have my Nikon D800. The Z6 is my go to camera for now.

Thank you. It was awesome. I was also under clouds in the early evening, but lucked our when everything cleared up around 10:00. It was so bright I was able to shoot at 1/350 of a second at f11.

As many of have probably done, I shot a picture of the closest moon since 1948. I used a 50 year old 300mm Mikor lens modified for an 800D Nikon camera. I put a 2X Tamron tele-converter to give me 600mm. I have attachd the results. It is a little darker than my original photo.

Great TIPS everyone. I am aware of some, but not all. My biggest problem is taking time and remembering everything. I seem to get in a hurry to often and spoil the picture, but I am working on it, and this forum helps me a lot.

Thanks to all of you.

When I need accuracy, I increase the magnification of the image I am working on, Sometimes to the point where I can see individual pixels. It doesn't make any difference what mouse I use.

Another possibility is to give it to a young person interested in film and darkroom work. I gave mine to a niece who was taking a film photography class in college.

AndiS:

I had the same situation with my 1965 Nikkor 1.2 50mm lens.

I could use it on my D300 and now my D800. However, before having it modified the aperture ring was locked at 1.2. My local camera store,National Camera in Minneapolis MN. Said the an area of the outer ring where the lens locks into the camera had to be filed down. I took it to another local firm, Northwest camera, and they were able to do the modification. I can now set the aperture wherever I want, They have web site northwestcamera.com and would be happy to talk with you about this. The cost was $50. I had the same thing done with a 300 mm lens of the same vintage.

Of course everything is manual and make sure you turn off the automatic focus on the camera.

All of the pictures I have taken with any of my Nikons adds the shutter count as part of the image title. Each picture has a title starting with three alphanumeric characters of your choice followed by the shutter count. I always save the shutter count as part of any title I give the image. for instance I have a raw image titled _8009467.TIFF. The 800 identifies the camera, D800, and the 9467 is the shutter count with the file type added as a suffix. - RAW, TIFF, JPEG, etc. It is all. right there. I add a title to this prerecorded data. I don't have to even open the file to see it.

Another advantage, If I ever want the raw image I can just do a search on that number.

I still have some Pan X in my freezer already to go in my Nikon F. It's been in there 20 to 25 years so I doubt it's any good any more. I should try it for kicks, what's a little freezer burn.

I know we are not to get emotional about the flag raising at Iwo Jima, however I have a hard time not getting emotional. Rosenthal's photographer, which was staged for the press is iconic, It is interesting to compare the photographic qualities between Rosental's photo and the original photo of the flag raising by Staff Sargent Louis R Lowery.

I think you misunderstood me. Yes I do own an F series Nikon and Yes I am familiar with depth of field and the depth of field button on the old Nikons, just as I am familiar with the depth of field button on my D100, D300 and D800.

However, The depth of field app on my iPhone is really neat and gives a lot more information.
