That said, the best, most sought-after recording engineers are those in their 40s, 50s, and 60s. They can only hear up to around 13,000 Hz, but they understand sonic depth, balance, mixing, and music. I learned a tip from the pros a few years ago: mix your music on a pair of small desktop speakers, and test it with iPhone EarPods and a factory-installed car CD player. That's what 98% of your audience will play it through, anyway.
I did sound reinforcement for my college union and radio production for the college station and two commercial stations. I can't hear as well at 62, but with what I know now, I can mix a lot better!
