Can you imagine what it would be like to live in that cabin?

Interesting series.
I just hope you don't plan on cooking Hot Dogs.

I can promise you, there will be no hot dogs in this pot. More like a chicken and sausage jambalaya.

Hi Ken! Nice shots with your new camera! And very nice design on your stand. What kind of burner goes on it? This looks pretty good to use cast iron on too. Which is what I love to cook in. I hope you show the finished stand when your cooking.:) Oh, and send us all some.:):)

Thanks for the compliments. To make this simple and easy to understand. A "stand" is what holds the pot. This stand has a "wind shield". That is sheet metal that is wrapped around it to block the wind, so the wind doesn't blow the fire out while you are trying to cook.

On top of the 2 piece elevated stand (base) that I am building, is the actual stand and burner for the 3 gallon cast iron round bottom jambalaya pot. The propane burner is already installed in the bottom of the stand. If you look close you will see something silver coming out of the side (close to the bottom) of the stand. That is part of the propane burner. Look at the top of the stand and you will see the pot at the top of the stand.

Sorry but I don't deliver that far. :P If you are ever down in my area, I am pretty sure that I can fire the burner up and cook something for you. Ken

Thanks Jack. the pictures were taken hand held. I do not like bending over that much trying to cook. I knew the burner and pot had to be raised. Standing straight up, I can touch the bottom of the pot with the tip of my finger. The legs on the top section still have to be cut flat so I can weld the top plate to them. That will drop the pot about an inch. I can deal with that. After I finish it, I will have the stand powder coated to protect it.

I guess my dog decided to move because I wasn't cooking and she wasn't getting any extra food. She started moving just as I was pressing the shutter button.

I picked up a Canon Rebel XTi yesterday. I thought this would be a good chance to try the camera out and post some pictures. The pot is a 3 gallon round bottom jambalaya pot. It was just too low to cook in, so I am building this 2 piece stand to raise it up to a comfortable cooking height.

Were you ever in the Boy Scouts? It seems like he was prepared for the job.

The $350 sounds much more reasonable for that camera. $800 I think would be waaaayyy too much!

The $800 dollars is in reference to a 40D that guy wanted to trade for a pcp air rifle that I have.

The $350 dollars was the price for a T1i that I decided to not buy.
I found a different used Canon camera for $260 dollars out the door. This is the one that I bought.

Just wanted to say I am sorry I had to cut off our phone call when I did, but I am a one man store up here and Saturdays are usually very busy. Any questions I did not get answered for you, feel free to email or PM them and I will do what I can to get you the answers you need.

I understand that your customers do come first over a phone call. I did enjoy the enlightening conversion. I am sure that I will have plenty of questions. I want to thank you for taking the time and for having the patience to answer my questions. I really appreciate it.

More on shutter actuation data and questions.

I think we know that most modern Canon EOS cameras collect shutter actuation data, but don't make it easy to access.

Questions are: How modern does it need to be, and which tools work with which cameras?

I have I identified two Windows-based applications (OP has Windows) Shuttercount.exe and EOSinfo.exe that seem to do a good job, from the Rebel XSi (450D - Digic III-based) onwards, but do not mention the Rebel Xti (400D - Digic II-based). I don't have one to test.

Has anyone on the HOG have tried and tested information about accessing shuttter actuation data on Canon EOS XTi or earlier cameras?

Your insight would be much appreciated, but please think about these specific models before sending links that work with newer models without checking. We probably know that information already.

Much appreciated.
More on shutter actuation data and questions. br ... (show quote)

I talked to one of the tech guys at Canon. He gave me the link to Shuttercount and EOSinfo. I tried both and neither worked. He said the only way to get the shutter count for the Rebel XTi is to send the camera to Canon. I don't think I will do that just to get the shutter count. They also do not have any parts to fix the XTi either.

It seems that it would be so simple to just have the shutter count as another feature in the menu on all cameras.

When taking pictures of pets, make sure you focus on the eyes. It is the most important thing to get in focus.

Thanks for that great tip.

He has posted several threads about the 40D, I had no reason to offer him an old Rebel. Oh well.

I did post some questions about the 40D. I thought I had some extra money coming in but that never happened. I did not know that MT Shooter had a camera shop. If I had known I would have checked with him.

What I spent on the camera today, was all that I had available to spend.
