I searched to see if anyone had commented on this type of LED ring attachment flash unit for Canon and only found one discussion about one that up for sale. Has anyone used these and what are their problems or advantages?

I made a ring light for less than $20 which works really well. If any HHers want to follow up, PM me and I’ll share details and pictures.

The main advantage over your 24 - 105 would be if the 24 - 70 had a max aperture of f/2.8. That would give you better low light performance and a shallower DOF.

A non-photographic reason is that from birth to death new toys are fun.

I have a Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 AFS which is one of the few lenses that I bought new. I sold a 28-70mm f/2.8 AF for more than I paid and supplemented with more cash. You’d have to pry this lens from my cold, dead hands its just that good!

20-70 & 70-200.

If you have those two zooms and they are f/2.8, then you don’t NEED a 50mm or a 85mm. That said, the 50mm is more versatile. If you want superior results that will max the sensor in your D850, look at the Sigma ART 50mm f/1.4. I may sell my Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 to get the Sigma.

The market is very competitive, and every one who has a cell phone or a point-and-shoot is telling their friends that they will "do it" for cheap. My experience is that you can make "some" money, especially if you develop your own niche, but unless you really commit and do it full time, you'll need another source of income.

See the attached image for my opinion.

I've had a few in the distant past. I've switched to B+W. Though some are difficult to find.

I used (past tense) Heliopan and B+W filters because they are superior to everything else. I took filters off of all of my lenses about 8 years ago and don’t protect my lenses unless I’m shooting waterfalls where there is mist. Including my trip to South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana. I did use a protective filter on that trip for the two times I shot Victoria Falls. If you’re going to he deserts of Namibia, maybe filters are recommended - otherwise don’t get too freaky.

What touch-up paint (matte black) works well on Nikons? Something like a touch-up pen.
Thanks

Don’t do it. Nothing will ever be as good as factory paint. The scuffs and scratches signify that you’re a camera USER and a REAL photographer. Be proud of the scuffs and embrace them!

I have a D71 I have used for years. Since upgrading I want to give it to my son.
It will not show image after trying to take a picture . All I get is blanks. Is it even worth repairing? Cost vs quality?
New user.

The D70 is way too old to be useful in 2020. 6mp and is not compatible with modern larger CF media. Get a used or refurb D7xxx series body and be happy.

I have had the following DSLR camera bodies, Olympus C2500L, Nikon D70s, D300, D300s D700 and now shooting with a D810. Since 2000 I have not used anything but CF memory and I am very pleased with my decision. CF is reliable, stable and fast (I shoot landscapes). All the consternation about other formats I s just noise in my head.

Biggest question before you spend a lot of money... What will the new camera do for you that the old one won't?

Or what does your old camera not do that you feel that you need a new camera ?

If the D750 is inhibiting your ability to capture excellent images then you need to get a different camera body. If your skill level has not surpassed the technology of the camera, then its just GAS.

Interested in opinions concerning the functionality between DSLR's and Mirror-less cameras. I would like to purchase a mirror-less camera but I am not sold on why. Many blogs tout the future of photography but I have not seen any compelling reasons as to why I would be better off with the future as apposed to what I have at the moment (D700x2 and D500). I mentioned in reply to someone in another post that I don't think the mirror-less cameras were "there" yet. I find that I really don't understand what I even meant by that.

I remember when buttons and dials were all the rage on stereo equipment. Then, that aesthetic was out and touch sensitive electronic stereo systems were "in." Now buttons, dials and switches are back...etc... Is is all aesthetics.

The latest and greatest in mirror-less technology does the same thing DSLR's do...just a slightly different way.

Thoughts, comments, concerns, burns and trolls welcome.

I am using a Nikon D810 (11 lenses) and a Olympus E-M1 (8 lenses). Both have their purposes. If size and weight are not an issue, the Nikon is the “go to” and if it is an issue, the Olympus wins. Both systems are terrific and the IQ iis great. There are differences, of course, but I have used both to produce excellent results. The most important factor in making great images is the index finger on your right hand, and the processor that controls it.

You won't any problem selling this baby. If I was younger, I would buy this but currently I am now thinking about cremation urns rather than camera lenses !!

What about using a lens hard case instead of an urn and solving both problems?

I have a canon EOS Rebel T7i with a pretty good assortment of lenses. I’m a realtor & most of my photography is real estate related but spent years fooling around with other forms of photography. Being new to Hedgehog, one of the things that has really impressed me is the sincerity of the members in trying to help others without ridicule or judgement. The vast amount of information, reading the Forum, is totally Greek to me & I’ve come to the realization that I would like to be a better general, overall, photographer and leave the realm of “automatic” photography. What would be your suggestions on how, without spending tons of money and time, to accomplish this, if it’s even possible?

It is possible to improve without spending “tons” of money - it is NOT possible to improve without spending “tons” of time. I have found that one of the best ways to improve is through structured course work such as the offerings of the New York Institute of photography, local workshops with professional photographers and constructive critique by photographers who know their craft. The other critical factor is “practice, practice, practice”. You could also find a mentor to guide you. I note that you have a “pretty good assortment of lenses”. Learn to use a 35mm prime shooting manual mode and you’ll see your work get better.
