Has anyone had experience with this lense on APS-C format? Interested in using it as walk around with Canon 80D, though not finding one available new or used now.

I have used all the PD straps and never a problem with twisting. not familiar with the other strap

We were there in August, 2019 and, although not at its peak,
it was spectacular. Still needed a plastic rain sleeve over camera on one day. At its peak the flow is tremendous and constant rain, not best for photos. You are going a little late but if that is your only choice, don't miss it.

Try the Peak Design straps. Several different widths and they have a no slip side. Sling strap is great as on the fly adjustment is built in

Africa is a photographic wonderland. Used a Tamron 18-400 almost exclusively with occasional Canon10-18 on separate body. You can't change lenses on safari.
Do not miss the other sites you mentioned. Take malaria prophylaxis religiously. Remember to have tetanus booster if needed and get typhoid vaccine.

Peak design system is outstanding. Secure and fast and uses arca swiss base plate so you can go right to tripod without and addition. All interchangeable clips are great.

Canvas champ does great canvas and metallic work. Very reasonable prices and fast turn-a-round
