I took my Panasonic’s zs100 and an Olympus tough and for the first in a while I was sorry I didn’t bring a bigger camera.
(And I just bought a g 85). Everywhere you look there is extraordinary scenery which literally changes every few miles. I’ve never seen the colors of green that you see there. And the trees are magnificent. And the mountains. And the harbors and bays .... just got home. Pix in a few days.
You are lucky to live in such a beautiful friendly place. No worries. No kidding.

Thank you all. Helpful info. I’m not too worried about storage space and I do need portability so I’m leaning toward a 13” Mac book pro. I can put google photos on that more easily than putting Apple products on a pc. And now I have to decide which is my cutest grand child for the discount process!!

I use Apple. Was a windows guy for 40 years. So happy with Apple. I use Lightroom.
Great Apple machine with 16GB on Board RAM which is important for image processing. Also, well in your budget.

Thank you! Appreciate the thought and the referral.

Trying to decide on a new laptop or something like the Microsoft surface pro to use exclusively for photo storing, cataloging and editing
I’m rethinking my systems
I do pretty basic unsophisticated editing.
And I want to efficiently make photo books.
I have done apple books but am also using google photos because more storage available at lower cost.
Would like to keep it under 1500$
Will also commit to an editing program and stick to it!! You
So? Suggestions? Opinions? Thank you!!

I’ve done 3 safaris with various equipment. I would urge one bridge camera with a long lens. My last safari trip I used the canon sx50. There are many comparable cameras by all brands but changinging
Lenses and keeping everything clean is a challenge. You need speedy reaction times and quick shots.
My back up camera Was an Olympus tough 4. Good For rainy days, dusty roads, and wide angles.
Have a great trip!

Took celebrity last year. Loved it. 100 passengers max. Good food, stable boat, interesting people and choices of activities each day: easy hike, hard hike, no hike, snorkeling or just swimming. etc. excellent guides.
But no special photography oriented instruction if that's what you want.
All Galapagos trips must employ Ecuadorian guides so the more expensive trips get the more experienced guides.
Take a waterproof camera, long lens if you want BIF pics. I had a canon sx50 and Olympus tough. (And back up lumix point and shoot). Take a waist strap to secure camera while hiking or getting on and off small boats.
A week was long enough I thought.
Have a great trip!

That is what I read about it, too, that it tends to be a little soft, especially at full zoom. But when I looked at some of the images taken at full 250mm, eq., zoom, they seemed sharp to me. Perhaps from a pixel peeper's point of view they are soft.

The ZS100 appears to have plenty of controls that allow it to be manually, or semi-manually operated. I just wonder how well it works compared with a DSLR or mirrorless camera in terms of controlling background blur. I read an article that said compact digital cameras tend to make that difficult due to the sensor size and limited aperture range. Seems to me that if you select your aperture you can still isolate your subject in the foreground with this kind of compact camera.

Sorry, I seem to have hijacked the thread, but it pertained to this particular camera.

I have this camera and like it a lot. But do find it a little "soft", especially inside without flash. Any suggestions? DSRapa

I'm here in Iceland. Where were you when you took the shot? Tho I don't think I'll be there at 3:00 am. I'd like to see the scene. Thanks. It's a gorgeous shot.

I agree. You have a lot of customizable settings that will improve the pictures. I use 8 or 16 s s excuse I keep all my cards. Very reasinably prices thru Amazon.
Also practicing with holding steady when you're zoomed out is very important. Knowing the camera for quick changes is also valuable.

Nice pics. I don't think I'll regret saving the space and weight taking the FZ200 vs the Sony...I hope. The whole camera doesn't weigh too much more than my 17-50 lens and is about half again as wide. It won't have the MP, but it'll do better in aperture and length than my 70-300. I wouldn't have taken the macro in any case. If only Delta didn't charge an extra $100 for a checked bag and the tour company didn't have space restrictions I'd probably take my Sony and (maybe) rent an 18-270 or something like it. I've never rented before, but I checked one out and it was like $275 if I took insurance for about 18 days.

I don't think you'll regret it. It's a great camera with good reach. And you want to see as well as photograph. Bring lots of memory cards and an extra battery. I usually went through both batteries in a day. The usual is an early am and then a later safari trip so you can recharge between. It's a special trip!
