Topaz has a habit of releasing software before it has been properly vetted. Honestly I am tired of purchasing something from them and have it update for a year then I get a prompt I have to buy the newer version if I want to stay current. I still have some of their older stuff and it is easier to use than studio 2.

I’m a newer UHH’r and and am thankful for all the knowledge and ideas I’ve received from the blog.

Is there a general rule or thought about using a zoom lens with a lower aperture for longer Tele or wide open and cropping in PP? My main concern is noise.

This actually a great question. I shoot rufly 10,000 shots a month as a media photographer and 80% are low light. Not uncommon to be shooting at 20,000 ISO all night at a football game or car race.

1. Always shoot as tight as possible in low light. If you have to crop make sure you are using the largest file size the camera has.
2. In low light over expose a tad so you can bring it down in post. It brings out details in the shadows.
3. I prefer a prime lens in low light. You always want the sharpest shot you can get in high ISO. And a prime lens is normally really good at its widest aperture.
4. Utilize your noise adjustment in camera if you have that feature. You can't beat the software in camera. If you don't get it all out in camera software can get the rest and you don't have to remove as much and give the smooth the photo that smoothed out look.
5 All ways use your hood when you have over head lighting. Lens flares are common if shooting from a low kneeling position.
I know I am missing a few but this is a good start.

I store my stuff in an Electronic Dry Cabinet. Helps control fungus buildup in the lenses.

Make sure you set up your flash relatively low so you don't blow out the background. If you have high speed sync I would look at using it. It takes quite a bit of light to stop the action at night. Using high speed sync will give you the ability of stopping the action with your shutter and lowering the ISO with the flash.

Whiteall, this was an issue with many of the earlier 7D11s. Mine had the same issue. I sent it into Canon under warranty and they said it was fine.Right after warranty was out the focal point display went out. They replaced it and one of the processors. I was going to sell it after repairs. It's spot on now. I use it as my travel and backup camera.

Looking good. Mixing basketball and football at the moment. Last Football game of the season tomorrow. Unless I let them talk me into shooting state again in Arlington.

I am 4/10s out of first don't think I can catch the leader. But would like to make it as close as possible. I did notice that after uploading the photos look less saturated than viewing them on my desktop thru photoshop. They look better when you click the download button.

Hoping I can stay busy enough this basketball season and winter rodeo season to pick one up mid year next year.

yes great shots! What kit lens? I have the 7DMark11 , but bought only the body.

Think it was a 50-250. I hate flying with my 70-200L unless shooting a project.

Two rows up from the field behind 1st base. I purposely left my pro gear at the house to travel light. Shot with a 7Dii and a kit lens.
