Hi everyone,
Well having now made the commitment to travel to Africa next August I have started to sort and weigh everything to take
List as follows with weight I am allowed 7kg carry on and 30kg check in

Equipment Weight
Back pack Pro trel 400AW 3.9
5DMk3 0.9
5DMK4 0.9
6 Batteries 0.4
100-400 1.8
70-200 1.9
24-70 0.9
24-105 0.9
16-35 0.9
50 0.8
2X 0.3
Tripod 3.6
Laptop and Charger 3.1
hard drives 0.8
Accessories 3.8
Total to date 24.9Kg

I am open to suggestions, some of the above like tripod and some accessories will be in checked luggage to lower the carry on
Countries I am going to are Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and the UAE for 68 days so I will be travelling overlanding style (camping most nights with some hotels mixed in)

Thanks in advance
Bob

Hi everyone,
I am getting ready to travel to Africa and I am looking for a good Vest/camera bag
I have looked at the Langley Jacket and it seems to be pretty good
I will also have a carry on bag and a check in bag
Some time ago I came across a jacket that turns into a bag but cannot remember where.
has anyone seen such a thing and where would I be able to purchase (I live in Australia) ?
Main reason looking for something like this is because of the weight restrictions on carryon imposed by the Airlines and their strict compliance with them (Emirates impose this in Dubai)
I once travelled to Canada with gear (since added to) and carried a lot of gear in my Jacket pockets to avoid the restrictions but was uncomfortable with the gear in the jacket as it was not designed to be used that way
Thanks in advance
Bob

Thanks for the replies
With the CSLR system the camera when being carried on the shoulder strap is in a face down mode ,ie the lens is pointing down, allowing the hand to naturally fall into the grip and feels quite natural
I tried using the camera loops and found that the camera kept twisting around
Looks like I will have to see if I can get a copy machined up as it seems like there are no other alternatives, shame really as CSLR had such a good system

Hi Guys,
I have for the last 4 years been using the Custom SLR Pro plate on my 5d3 in conjunction with their Cloop to attach the shoulder strap and a wrist strap for extra security and convenience thus I was able to almost instantly go to using the camera hand held and if I wanted to use a tripod or monopod the camera could be just "clicked" into place with the straps secured to prevent any vibration and also enable the camera to be then removed put over my shoulder and move on without any fuss

It has proven to be a great product so much that as I am now purchasing a second 5dmk4 i wanted to be able to use the same system but, much to my dissapointment they have decided to discontinue the Pro plate instead offering their slim plate )which is the same as the pro but without the extra"spigot to attach the C Loop to thus necessitating removing the C Loop each time I wish to use a tripod/monopod thus negating the purpose of their system

Does any one know of a similar compatible system
.Thanks
Bob

I like the main st Berlin. Your eyes are drawn to the people walking down the street then across to the sign and it conveys the message that they are looking for somewhere to dine on a cold and wet night

Nice start but I find them a little dsrk, maybe under exposed?
I try to have a "story " in the images but it is really what you see as the photographer that counts 😊
Perhaps a focal point which draws the eye to the subject/s
Just my opinion

Thanks everyone , the weather was kind to us whilst we were there
Not many sunny days, but when the sun did appear it was mind blowing and you just don't know what to photograph
I will try and post some more later on but would like some c.c as to what could be possible to "tweek" them without losing the feeling of the continent
If you can ever get there it is worth every cent, particularly if you can get on a smaller boat as we did. You get more shore time and closer to the animals
Strict rules are on place with regards to how many people are allowed on shore at any time
