I asked about a new camera (FF) to go with my D7100 a month back and it was suggested I get the D500 so that all my lens would be interchangeable. Reluctantly, I have agreed, then I read that a Z5 may be coming to replace the D500. If that is true, would you expect that a new series of Z lens would also accompany it. If so, I need to get the D500 now or lose my advantage of lens use however, I hate to purchase 3 or 4 year old technology if something possibly better is on the brink of introduction. Choices, choices and choices!

If you think like that you'll never buy a new camera as there is always something coming out to replace it.

Can anyone recommend a good inexpensive stable tripod for my Sony RX10IV?

No such thing, the words inexpensive and stable don't mix when talking about tripods. For reasonably priced decent spec. tripods take a look at the Manfroto range.

There is actually a market for empty original boxes on sites like E-bay. Call me an old cynic but if someone was planning an insurance fraud these boxes could be very useful to use as proof of purchase, especially as they include the serial no. of the camera or lens they once contained.

I see IQ used frequently. Aside from "intelligence quotient", what does it stand for? Also, is there a site that lists all the acronyms used. (Nikon) Thanks all.

NAFA, or not another f***ing acronym! Don't you just hate them?

The 28-300 is a DX lens. Put it on an FX camera like the D810 and the camera automatically goes into a DX crop mode.

Untrue, the 28-300 is an FX lens.

I have to find it but I have the ads for the Olympus Pen when it was introduced. Olympus called it the "35mm single frame". The didn't call it half frame.

In the U.K. they called it half frame.

The term full frame pre-dates digital photography. It was applied to 35mm. film cameras after the introduction of half frame cameras which also used 35mm. film, but the negative size was 24mm. x 18mm. Olympus manufactured some very compact cameras that used this format.

A perfect example of fine art photography, tasteful and not at all offensive.

Back in the day, the f stops you mention used to be known as continental f stops. At least they did in the U.K.

No-one has a good photo of a U.F.O. for the same reason no-one has a good photo of the Loch Ness monster, they don't exist!

I saw my first photo of a UFO in the 1950's when I was a youngster. Now I'm 67 and still see fuzzy photos of UFOs. Wouldn't you think after all these improvements in cameras that someone, somewhere, could get a decent photo of a UFO?

Maybe UFOs are fuzzy and all those shots over the years were in focus. I doubt it, but all this UFO stuff sure makes me wonder.

The sole of my shoe works very well for me, i.e., press lens tightly against sole or heel of shoe, twist anti-clockwise, hey presto, filter loosens. Obviously this works best with smooth(ish) soles.

Hi, I know that not all flights require checking your camera gear as luggage. But with flights now coming in to the USA from some Afircan/ ME countries - which I go to for shoots, I worry about my gear. I also worry that this is going to expand with all the crazy things happening in the world? What do you think?

Absolutely not!!

Photography is quickly becoming an E mail with or without words.
Images posted straight from the camera in order to satisfy peoples need to share their daily lives - where they have been, what they saw at 7 am, 9 am etc or 'look ma...I have just learned to do this with my camera from Youtube'

This is a totally different aspect of photography than what 'Photography' was a decade ago.

We have had 'Photography as Art' as a separate Genre for donkey's years. That, however relies upon a certain skill set beyond 'snap shot'. It has its own set of rules and affectionardo's

Without trying to be elitist ...'Photography' has always relied upon a lot of learned skills and a shared understanding of 'quality'. It has a breadth of subjects and means.

What do we now call the skilled image maker who creates 'a photograph': not a statement.?

Just curious....

The D7200 is not better than the D500. It's the other way around.[/quote]

He didn't say it was, he was saying that both were better than the 90.

Why would you think Paul Simon would know the correct pronunciation? He's American!
