Sorry I did not make myself clear . This is all re Nikon

We are told that the advantages of the S lens is no vignetting , no CA and super sharp . If the first two do exist but are corrected on import to LR . That leave the Sharp bit . But is a sharp lens desirable for portraits ?

The F mount 85 lens display CA wide open but can that be fully corrected on import to LR. If so , its not an issue.

I don't own a fast portrait lens and was trying to compare my options . Have a Z6 and a D850. Have got very confused.

I am really confused. Looking for a portrait lens. Was getting seduced by the above lens, no vignetting or CA. Then it occurred to both my brain cells that these issue are probably being no corrected at import . What is wrong with just ticking the boxes on LR myself. Reviews state stunning level of sharpness but is this really needed for a portrait lens.

Please restore my sanity

Appreciate your dilemma. Use a D850 and a Z6 . Bought the Z6 after a GAS attack with the intention of dumping DSLR. Now realise that there is no perfect camera and that each has it unique problem etc.
There is no need to vascillate, just be confounded and confused like me .

Today I am going to a butterfly house with camera attached. Will take the Z6 because of silent shutter , trouble is that the lens , Nikon 70-180 macro , won't autofocus on the Z6 but does on the D850. So to make the manual focus easier I would like to use flash . Z6 silent shutter will not trigger flash ! So I will use a LED (Rotolight Neo 1, old but works ) to over come this issue.

Back to the anxiety tablets.

The bag keeps the condensation off the equipment, maybe placing the bag in the car trunk during the drive to the shooting location or in the garage before shooting around the house.

The same can happen when moving from the subzero winter temps into a conservatory / green-house or zoo aviary.

I will be venturing into a Butterfly house at a zoo this weekend and want to avoid the issue of condensation on the lens when entering the suit. I have been in one unit before in a very warm climate and there was no issue .

In a recent issue of "N Photo" magazine a reader give the tip of wrapping the lens in cloths and putting them in a bag with hand warmers . Sounded a brilliant idea.

Have any of you Hoggers out there used this or have something that is effective ?

Keep safe and well.

I have this lens and am stunned by it . The quality is superb.

I used it recently at a zoo and found that I was too close . Still took the photos and found that got great close ups of some action from elephants , if movement by elephants can be called action etc . Just fell in love with closeups . They seem to get the viewer into the photo . Highly recommend it .

As far as zooming is concerned, I am afraid that you will have to use manual zoom and were out some shoe leather.

200-500 : I did have one of those, great lens but too heavy for me and a bit soft at the 500 end .

Its all about compromise , nothing is a perfect fit ! not even my clothes.

Good luck and keep safe .

I understand your frustration , you are not insulting people, they deserve to be insulted. I am in the UK and we have areas where people are blatantly ignoring the social distancing .There are packed beaches , demonstrations and the specific area in which I live has been packed with people.

In one area, Leicester, they are now having to consider a complete lockdown again as they virus is spreading again !

They will spread the virus and there will be unnecessary deaths . They are committing murder by their selfish behaviour , words fail me . They are disgusting.

Hi,

I have been going through a similar consideration . I have and use the FL version on my D850. It is a superb lens, no issues .

The S version is over so slightly "better" in terms of overall sharpness, so they say . Whether this would be noticed in the real world is dubious .

I believe that there are some comparisons of the two on the web (Ricci talks?) , don't think the difference will be noticeable .

I have the Nikon and am satisfied but there was a review of both these lens in an edition of Photo magazine , a Nikon owners mag.

The Tamron got the award , particularly with the issue of image quality. Sorry , but I did not keep the articles although you can purchase back issues on line . Might be worth a look
