It looks focused to me. I like the entire body of the man in focus, my preference. I like the flowers in the foreground in focus and wouldn't be too bothered if the flowers behind the man were in or out of focus.

Good job. Have a great day. Cheryl

Hi: I haven't been on in a long time. But always enjoy seeing the Hummingbird photos. I have about 4 birds right now and set up a feeder for my mom at her house, she has none yet. I have her change the water quite frequently, plus she has a lot of flowers. I don't get why they aren't coming to her house.

Anyway, nice picture. I'll post some soon too. Have a great day, Cheryl

Thank you all, I was sort of leaning that way to purchase a better L lens. I don't have that many lens, but what I do have are considered kit lens, except for one L series Macro lens. Again, I appreciate your comments. Cheryl

I own a Canon T3i and XS. I have thought that i might upgrade to a 7D ( or possibly a full frame camera. Or, I might keep the two cameras I have and just replace the kit lens I have with a superior L series lens.

So my question: is it better to purchase a professional lens to make the difference in my photo quality. Or would a professional camera purchase make a significant difference using the lens I already own (kit lens, not L series).

So buy new camera or new lens? Which would you recommend.

Thanks, Cheryl

I love it. I loved the Carol Burnett Show and this skit was so funny. This staircase looks similar to the original in the movie. Who cares that it's February! I like the other two photos as well. Cheryl

I know, I know...I just was searching "mirror" reflections and saw this old post that was never commented on. I wanted to say, I hate when posts go unnoticed because there are so many posts. Second, I really like your photos! Cheryl

It's been a long time since I've posted any photos, but I have a few of my daughter. Sometimes her photos are serious looking but, I prefer her smiling. I'm printing these for her as a gift for Christmas. She is a model and likes the non-smiling shots.

Anyway, my main questions is about white balance or knowing what is a good color for the skin and color tone for the background, etc. I know shooting outdoors will bring a different color then shooting inside. But, I just want natural looking results whether shooting inside or out.

Can you tell me on each of these photos if the color looks correct to you. As well, any other critiques are appreciated. I use a Canon T3i and XS with a telephoto lens, or Macro 100mm or standard kit lens. My flash is a Canon 580EX II, which gets used straight on at full power. If I have a friend helping me, I'll ask them to hold a reflector so I can bounce the flash. Well, any suggestions are welcome. Thank you all. Cheryl

Cheryl,

I have done a little work on the image, see what you think.

Brian: Thank you so much for your attempt at fixing my images of Lorna. I really do like what you did to it. So from all the comments, I should have blurred the background more, possibly had her wear a solid color dress (so it wouldn't have blended in as much). Get rid of the kitty (sweet cat...but wouldn't leave us alone). I do know the lighting is sort of flat, but I'm not sure how to fix in future photos?

Again thank you for all your comments. I did go to a website that someone here suggested in a different post and read the do's and don't of portrait photography. I think I did a lot wrong. Oh well, I'll keep trying. :) Cheryl

Well, I have Photoshop Elements but am not at all good at using it -- yet. So, I use Picasa 3 or a very old program PhotoSuite. I do shoot Raw + JPEG. I keep the Raw files stores in case I ever get proficient enough to do my own photo corrections. The one photo that is shown and can be downloaded, I used a flash off camera via a cord. Unfortunately, it was the first time I used it and I wasn't aiming it correctly. The bottom of the photo was too bright. And, I know the cat shouldn't have been in the photo. It was a stray cat that entered the photo shoot, not intentional.

Sorry I tried to repost them all so the originals could be downloaded and I deleted the initial ones I posted. But, my internet kept timing me out. I will have to try to post them again. But, I appreciate your comments Russ and will try to correct some of the issues in Post Production. Thanks again, Cheryl

I really like the second photo best. I'd say creative focusing. I like to do a few of my photos like that, usually trying to make an average photo pop a bit. Usually, I like my composition, but maybe a sky is dull so I try to enhance it or purposefully blur it. Anyway...I like what you did. Cheryl

What a stunningly beautiful photo, good leading line to the tree, love the sky and especially the reflection in the puddle. Cheryl

I'm so sorry of your loss. We love our pets too. My silver Persian, Precious, of 17 years had to be injected this summer. I know it was for her own good, but I miss her dearly. She was a sweet kitty and my other four kitties miss her too. I'm sorry you lost your Snowy. Cheryl

not to mention dangerous. As a cop i helped work a train versues human accident, there was nothing left that looked remotely human. like the shot but please stay off the tracks. They are finding that railroad enginerrs who have hit people and cars are developing similar ptsd as some of our veterans.

I agree, although some pretty cool photos could be taken on the tracks, stay off them. My husband works on the railroad and has come home, unfortunately, with some horrible stories. People vs. Trains = Trains always win. Enough of that! Your photo of the girl is very nice, maybe a park or whatever sport she might be interested in would make as nice a place to photograph her.
