One of my daughters friends wanted me to do her Senior portraits and this railroad is one of the several themes she wanted to pick from.

Thanks! She and her mom really liked it, but I'm still learning.

Great color and use of a narrow DOF. A VERY nice image.
However, it is trespassing to shoot on railroad tracks.

In some states, it is illegal, in all states, the tracks are private property.

not to mention dangerous. As a cop i helped work a train versues human accident, there was nothing left that looked remotely human. like the shot but please stay off the tracks. They are finding that railroad enginerrs who have hit people and cars are developing similar ptsd as some of our veterans.

Thanks Captain, but I didn't know that information about the tracks. Certainly will abide by that advice.

Captain, thanks for this info. I looked up my state and find no regs. Interesting. But I will pass these links on to some of my railfan friends.

Yes, in some states it is illegal by statute. But still, it is considered trespassing. So it is not "illegal" for me to walk through your property, but it can be considered trespass.

But really, the big thing is the hazard--and not just from being made into hamburger by a train. If a client were to fall and become injured, not only would you be liable, but the railroad would find themselves in a lawsuit. That is why more than one photographer has found themselves in hot water.

Besides, it is overdone. :-)

Nice. What aperture setting did you use for this?

These scenes are not very pretty. Working with the friends and families of those hit is also hard work. Of these that I have been at, I only know of one that was not intentional. PTSD is being seen a result of many other traumatic incidents that are not war or LEO related. Thank you, sinatraman, for reminding us of the dangers.

Dr Rae, was at f2.8, iso 400, 1/400 sec, focal length 195mm using a 70-200 2.8 Nikon Lens and a D700.

The Indians ( Native Americans) used to put their ears and hands to the rail to hear or feel vibrations. How many Indians were run over by trains? Not too many. But be quick. The fast trains come up quickly. Have a person behind you with hand and ear to rail during the shoot. Still a little dangerous but it works fairly well.
