Congrats. My 50th is in two years. Don't forget the bridge washout at Big Sur on highway 1 of California. Check with the state highway bureau or AAA to get alternatives around that bottleneck/stoppage.

Thanks for reminding me, I am gonna pass on doing the California coast up to and a little beyond the Golden Gate Bridge, at that point I will engage the coast and continue all the way to Vancouver. On my return trip I will Take Hwy 5 and parts of Hwy 101 to see the rest of Washington and Oregon that I missed going. I live in Los Angeles all of my life so I been along the Calif. coast, many times.

Well in a few more days we will have made it. The problem is trying to figure out how to Celebrate it. When we hit our 25th Silver, we did it really big and it was Fantastic. So this time we decided to do something kinda simple.
We decided to drive the Coast from Los Angeles to Vancouver Canada. Thru all the rain of Oregon and Washington to Canada and spend our 50th in Vancouver. This way I can take all of my Camera gear with me and I mean all of it. It should be fun..

I have a Nikon D5500 with an 18 - 55 mm and a 55 - 300 mm lens but I want a more all-around lens so I don't have to change lenses so often. I've been looking at the Nikon AF-S DX 18 - 200 mm F/3.5 lens as the best candidate. I understand zoom lenses with a greater (18 - 300 mm) range will suffer from image quality at the longer focal length so I'm staying away from that choice.

My questions are:
1. Will an 18 - 200 mm lens suffer image quality just as much as the 18 - 300? Should I go with an even shorter range of focal lengths?
2. Is there an equivalent lens that can do better than F/3.5?
3. Should I stick with Nikon at a higher price or are the Sigma or Tamron lenses just as good?

Thanks folks.

The best DX lens is the Nikon 16-80 for a walk around. That's what I use on my D500. My second lens is the Nikon 70-200 f4... works great on my D500 or my D800 Sharp , Sharp And Sharp

I have several Kowa 6 cameras, lenses, Backs and accessories. I have hit 71 and can no longer get out and do any shooting. I also have a Nikon EM 35mm, and a Mamiya 645 1000. I also have a good deal of both B&W and Color printing and darkroom equipment. I would like to find new homes for all of it. I live in El Centro California (120 miles East of San Diego) and could arrange to show it to interested parties. Patrick A. Lewis (760) 544-6150 plewis1026@gmail.com

Between Christmas and New Year's Day we treated some out of town guests to a 1-day visit to San Antonio. With the driving time of 3 hours each way and spending about 8 hours there, it was a long day. But it was also an enjoyable day, and to top it off, I was able to capture some photos that I was pleased with. So here are but a few of the images that I was able to bring back from the Alamo City. Comments welcomed and I hope you enjoy.

PS: All photos hand held.

Thanks for the pictures. they are great. We had a Family Reunion in K.C. in July this year and decided to drive down to San Antonio and see the Alamo and the River Walk. Well we got to see the Alamo but a huge storm rolled in on us at the River Walk and Ran us out of there and sent us on our way back to Los Angeles. So thanks for the pictures to show us what we missed. We will be going back...
