Alcatraz Island - A prison in San Francisco Bay. It housed the famous Birdman of Alcatraz along with others like Al Capone and Machine Gun Kelley. In its day it was the toughest max security prison in the US

Chaz, you might not know that you can post up to 10 photos in one topic. As you saw from Steve M's comment, he was not aware of your previous of this subject.
If you had placed all the photos in a single topic, the result could have been a terrific storytelling series, from distant view to arrival to tour within, and this as the final.
The way UHH is set up, your topics do not stay grouped together, and also each topic requires being opened individually.

Not hard at all, guessed it when I looked at it.... never been there but have seen a lot of pics taken of the "Rock" Seen it from the shore many a time....

It was a tour of Alcatraz. A max security prison that was infamous for being a very tough prison in its day. Today its a museum. The pic was taken pulling away from the prison dock. A sight not many who went there as inmates ever got to see.

It's a really tough swim, especially with the cold and the currents. Hence, so few successful escapes. When we took the tour in 2007 there was a former inmate there who was fascinating to listen to.
