Between the prosecutorial rock, and the defensive hard place. If there was a saying covering a third entity (e.g. Judge), I'd be the meat in that sandwich of justice. ;-)

But when the prosecutor and defender plead their way to lunch on the taxpayer, they settle for balogna.

I've been called three times. However, having worked as a criminal defense investigator here on the Western Slope of Colorado since 1997, and in that time, have worked for DAs in private practice and most of the judges when they were in private practice, I'm tossed. My best time is 5:45.

Just a hunch but it seems you would make a great juror and a help in the jury's chamber. You probably know a lot about being objective. Of course, if you have a history with someone in the court, that would be a reason to be excluded.

The rule is: take only photos, leave only footprints !

Catchy motto except in certain parts of Yellowstone National Park where footprints will get you a heavy fine.

Statistics prove the rates of recidivism are indeed high. Provable by long criminal records.

There are people who don't mind living in prison for limited stretches of time. The guy who carjacked me told me that very thing. Their profession is crime even though the financial rewards are sporadic. It's a cultural choice, not entirely different from able bodied persons who choose to live off working people legally through government programs designed to secure their votes. The driver for this is a deep rooted sense of entitlement that is very hard to cure.

Pardon me, no pun intended, but I can't tell if you are serious or trolling. You immediately denigrated both the plaintiff and the defendant by implying that neither party's testimony could be trusted. At least you were asked to serve again. Thanks for sharing.

I'm 78 and have not had an insurance claim is 30 years. That was a deer who ran out in front of me on a 65 MPH highway and too close to stop or avoid. My insurance was under $500.00 for 6 Months in Va. but move here to Texas and it went to $900.00 and then to over a grand. I finally found a company to insure me for 20% higher than Va. Lots of hard work to get that for a driver who had not had an accident since 1962. I was at fault in my mothers 1963 Buick Le Sabre in November of that year, 1962. All those years with no accidents and no claims. What one agent told me was that the DUI rate here is very high and so everybody's rate goes way up. Just keep the govt. out of it or it will really go thru the roof.

The govt is partly responsible for millions of new uninsured motorists. (Undocumented drivers rarely purchase auto insurance). Also, car thieves have reacted to the value of used cars since governments shut down supply chains during the pandemic. Someone has to pay insurance companies for any claims related to these two factors.

From what I understand, USAA is about as good as you can get. Thank you for your service

Yes, and I have not left them. After the way GEICO did me, better the devil you know than the next one waiting around the corner. There no need to thank me for doing my obligation, but I appreciate that. I would gladly do it again.

I didn't suggest that. My state only requires that I carry liability. I self insure for the cars, not for liability. Uninsured motorist is not required and is redundant here. Liability covers my passengers for all hazards. I save about half by taking on the minimal risk for the value of my cars. I've saved tens of thousands over the years with this approach. My risk is minimal.

From my post which you quoted:
"Yes, we need liability coverage and health insurance, but the cost of insuring "stuff" is completely out of control. I prefer used cars that I can afford to replace....(no collision, uninsured motorist, or comp insurance)

Sorry about not being clearer. I wasn't countering your statement, but just adding another perspective. You were clear about having liability. I also self-insured at times, but in my case medical for my family. We were all young and healthy. I saved enough in premiums to pay for one new child and one broken leg or similar per year and still break even. Luckily we had neither so I ended up saving 20K over 4 years. That was before medical costs went crazy. Today, that would barely cover one ER visit. I agree, everyone needs liability coverage at home or on the road.

Increasingly, I feel like I don't want to own anything that I can't afford to self insure. If we're afraid to make a claim, why carry the coverage?

Fines for driving without proof of auto insurance in SC is worse than not having a license or registration. I insure to avoid this if ever stopped at a check point. Despite paying USAA for over $200K with only with one at-fault claim in 40 years almost 10 years ago, I pay 1400/yr per car even without collision. The cars are old but run well such that if one is wrecked by another driver I would be awarded a fraction of what it would take to replace it. If I could self-insure I would, but state law does not permit it. Also, without comp you get nothing from insurance if your car is stolen. I switched briefly to GEICO, saved considerably, but after two months each car's rate went to 1K/6mo with no explanation other than "a normal rate increase". They must have hoped I wouldn't notice.

I liked #1. I would only rotate it a fraction of a degree clockwise, reduce the saturation, and perhaps contrast ever so slightly. I am probably off on the last point due to my office type monitor, not great for photography. I like the composition.

I am a simple hobbyist with other obligations that unfortunately get in the way of photography, but when I happen upon a scene that strikes me as potentially interesting or pleasing to others, I reach out for my nearest capable camera. I then concentrate on the technical challenge of not losing what I saw that make the scene special. Fine tuning the composition, which to me is perspective and framing, is usually the last step before releasing the shutter after I did my best that the photograph will work with DOF, focus, resolution, and other more technical aspects. Since lighting is also a major part of the composition, so I try to capture the entire range of light from shadows to highlights in order to have more to work with later in step 2. I obviously do not know the proper rules of composition. I just try to share what I see with others who could not be in that place at that time.

Going back a few years - actually many years - in cold weather areas cars would get aftermarket block heaters. These would plug into electric outlets and keep the engine block just warm enough to keep the motor oil from solidifying. Many town had outlets on the parking meters, motels advertised outdoor outlets. Going retro might be the answer to the EV cold battery problem.

I recall my dad putting a dipstick heater in his '58 Chevy Nomad even with the car in an enclosed, attached garage.

-45F in Black River, NY. Thankfully there was no wind. With a stiff wind I recall one day at -35F. Both were the 1960's. It gave me respect for people in North Dakota and other midwest states who get both -40's AND wind.
