Anyone know of clubs on Long Island?

Hi,

There are two clubs in your area. The Kings Park Camera Club, approximately 30 members, and the Huntington Camera Club, approximately 100 members.
Please message me if you want more specific information. Enjoy.

OK. I hear you. Many thanks for all the comments. I am not going going to go into the specifics of my arrangements, but believe me when i say that I am very familiar with the parking facility, and that I am not worried about security. People with cars a lot more expensive than mine keep their cars there, and we have not had an incursion in all the years I have parked there. OK, there’s a first time for everything, but it won’t be my minivan that gets hit.

The heat, however, doesn’t care what part of the world my car comes from, and the majority opinion has convinced me to haul the big glass with me rather than leave it to roast in the car. Not that big a deal, it’s just inconvenient and a little more work than leaving it parked. My ultimate destination is week in Cape May for birding, which I am looking forward very much.

Thanks again to all who responded.

Cars with out of town plates stand out and are candidates for potential break ins. People on vacation usually have personal items in their car or trunk. Food for thought.

I just received an email from a club member that the Canon repair center, in Melville, NY, has been closed. All repairs are to be sent to:

Canon Factory Service Center
12022 Canon Blvd.
Newport News, VA 23606

I wonder why they are doing this? The Nikon repair center, is open, and it's less than a mile away. It will be interesting to learn what prompted them to close.

I've never given much thought to this, but now that my wife and I are looking to buy a home, it has really made me appreciate the talent that some photogs have. It is instantly apparent when an amateur produces the online ad, as opposed to a real pro. Some of the MLS ads have me wanting to just send money with the expectation the house will look like the photos show. Such is not the case, however. My wife, bless her heart, hasn't quite figured it out, and goes to each showing expecting the house to look like the ads. How long does it take, and what is the investment required to produce these results? I assume a FF (or larger) camera is necessary, and the lighting just WOW. I would like to attach a photo that illustrates what I mean but it would probably be against some rules or other.

Hi,
I'm interested in your post about real estate photography because a friend of mine has done a few jobs & asked if I would be interested in doing some work. The pay, however, seems very low, for the amount of effort, time, and work involved. The jobs are sometimes 40 miles away & sometimes further. The pay ranges from $85-125, for minimum of 30, finished images & depending on the distance to the house. We are on Long Island, and it seems the competition, is fierce.

What area of the country, do you live, and what is the going rate, for similar, assignments? To me, here on Long Island, the pay seems too low, especially, when you factor in, gas, wear & tear of your car, and the time involved.

Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and stay safe and healthy.
Michael

Hunt's is very reputable and is the largest ( I believe) camera retailer in New England.

Camera Land, in Bethpage, Long Island, is also very good, and very helpful. Good inventory, prices, and they give a lot of free classes, offer a free photo challenge and critique, programs. They've been around since the late 50's. Originally was in NYC, and then moved to Long Island, several years ago.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I already have version 3, nad when I clcked on the "upgrade" tab, it said I already had their newest version.

I'm trying, however, to pre-order their new version coming out, I think in the Fall, that has a way of replacing the sky, in your photos. They are offering it for $49, instead of the $89, price when it comes out.

I tried Emailing them, but it doesn't allow me to write about my particular question. It only gives a set of choices, none of which fit. It thens brings you to their "Frequently Asked Questions."

It won't even let me oder it for the $49, price.

Very frustrating.

Thanks for responding.

I just noticed that they are calling it Luminar 4.

I'm referring to it as "19" but I think it's just an upgrade-with added features. What caught my attention was the ability to change the background-skies.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Who did you send the email to? I tried to send them a message, but it only gave categories, and again, it wouldn't let me send or write a message.

Hi,

I have Luminar 2018, and would like to know, if there is a free upgrade to Luminar 2019? The company doesn't have a phone support number.

I received an Email from them, offering a discount for $49, to upgrade, and so I tried to order it. The Tab, however, was grayed out, and it wouldn't let me continue.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I didn't mention that I only use OEM batteries, in my cameras. I only use Duracell for (inexpensive) flashlights.

Hi,

Kirkland batteries, may be a best buy, but they're not as bright as the Duracell. I had always bought Kirkland batteries, and used them for many years, until one day, I had 2 flashlights, and one had Kirkland & the other Duracell batteries. When I turned them both on, to make sure they worked, I was amazed at the difference in their output.

I then started to test all my flashlights, comparing, both batteries, and was surprised to see the Duracell batteries were much brighter. I brought, the last batch, of Kirkland batteries, back to Costco, and now only use the Duracell.

As was mentioned, the Duracell batteries do seem to leak and corrode. I just had to toss an expensive, photography flashlight, that had multicolored lenses because the batteries corroded, and destroyed it.

Hope this helps.
