After several hours of walking the Midway at the Kansas State Fair in the summer heat, finding a shady spot for a child you love and protect makes good sense.

Well, one previous poster said it best in my opinion. I don't know if these Sony's are "best" in their class or not, but I do know that Sony was very marketing savvy in coming up with deals for giant media organizations. Between volume discounts and exclusive contracts, they have gotten their products out into full public view. Hey, I might use Sony myself if they gave me sweetheart deals...

Dear Dragonophile... You can't go wrong with the Sony A7r4 camera that costs far less than the Alpha1 and it has the same huge sensor that allows me to take excellent pictures in poor lighting conditionsat Hartman Arena shooting for the Wichita Wings Indoor Soccer team for the last forty-three years. Stay well my friend. Shooter41

Dear judy juul... Did you lay two different photos on a piece of black cardboard, with the one of the gentleman cut into heart shape and take one final picture to get this wonderful end result? Shooter41

Dear Photogril17...Would you please share how you achieved the wonderful montage of the shot of you holding up your left hand and the shot of the gentleman inside the heart? (I don't know if you did it using photoshop and layers to super impose one image on top of another, or some other wonderful procedure, but I like the end result. Shooter41

Family

Dear Vaun's photography...Your picture of your two grandchildren eating cookies while the family dog watches in hopes somebody will toss a piece of cookie to them brought tears of joy to my eyes. It is obvious that you have discovered what is important in life and know how to capture moments of joy with your camera that last forever. I am happy for you and would like to share a picture of the best present I ever received for my Christmas present when I was just four-years-old. Shooter41

I know there are people on here much more experienced in PP than I am, and also know there are other ways to accomplish what is needed to preserve a photo the way the maker wants it to look. This is something I do to get to the end result. It is quick and easy and can be done in about a minute.

Problem 1: The photo is not straight
Problem 2: Cropping the shot in a traditional manner will result in cutting off part of the white cow on the left side of the shot.

Photo 1 -- original shot
Photo 2 -- original shot with standard cropping
Photo 3 -- original shot with added border
Photo 4 -- crop after border is applied
Photo 5 -- additional crop to get the final look
Photo 6 -- finished photo after cloning in some grass in the lower left corner to eliminate the black triangle left
from the final crop. Additional PP to boost color and eliminate noise.

I hope this will help a few people to save a shot or two. I have used it to keep a face from being cut in half and for other shots like the one posted. While this isn't a wonderful photo or a wall-hanger, it served as a good example of this technique I use for cropping.
I know there are people on here much more experien... (show quote)

Dear Bridges... Would you explain how one adds a black border OUTSIDE THE ORIGINAL IMAGE? (I know how to add a black border inside the original image using Photoshop CS4, but not outside the origianal image.) Thank you. Shooter41

Dear gwilliams610ne...
Me too! As an high action indoor sports photographer shooting in the low light of a soccer arena, the full format Sony A7R4 was a no brainer allowing me to shoot at 1/2000 of a second at F2.8 and ISO 12,800. Canon was my choice for years until Sony came out with their Alpha models. Never looked back. Shooter41

Dear DWU2...
I had an American made mobile home just like the one in your picture that you lived in as a boy. It was made very well and served it's purpose on weekends at my farm outside Fredonia, Kansas during the 1970's. Shooter41

We all know we can't use HDR for an action shot. DUH? Very clever of you to point that out - not!

When you are looking at an action shot you clearly don't care about the noise. If you look at that image, the noise is horrible.

There are lots of things you can do to avoid that or to fix it. You need to learn about them.

Dear selmslie...
You wrote, "There are lots of things you can do to avoid noise or to fix it." Would you please enumerate the things an excellent photographer such as yourself can do to avoid as much noise as possible due to the poor lighting at the arena where my subjects are high action indoor soccer players?

First of all, I cannot increase the lighting because at the events I photograph are in an arena that does not allow photographers to use flash and they refuse to improve their lighting. At every game the poor lighting is equally bad. The distance from my camera to my subjects constantly varies from 20 feet to 180 feet as players run up and down the pitch and I move to get a better angle or closer to the action.
IE...I have to shoot without a flash with my lens set at F2.8 resulting in minimal depth of field, 1/2000 second shutter speed which freezes the action and a minimum ISO of 12,800 to start editing my images with the least noise possible.
You mentioned ways to exist to fix noise. I have been using first lightroom denoise and then Topaz de-noise. Perhaps you would share the way YOU fix noise so that I can do my own homework allowing me to create better high action, poor lighting sports images.
Thank you in advance for having the confidence to share your photographic knowledge with someone who admires the work you do.
Cordially...Shooter41

If the scene's range is narrow then you just need to get the exposure right. But if it's too wide, D-lighting compresses everything you can't compress only some of the range. You are better off with two exposures and HDR.

Dear selmslie....I read and appreciate your post in reply to RAW vs JPEG shooting. Would you please do me a favor so that I can benefit from your excellent photographic knowledge? Please examine my attached indoor soccer image in this post, that was shot under low light conditions using a Sony A7R4 camera set on JPEG and a Sony 70-200mm telephoto lens before explaining to me in detail what would be improved if I had taken it with two exposures and HDR. I am always open to improvement. Thank you in advance. Shooter41
