Don't jump to uninformed conclusions. According to the CDC, of all the US deaths attributed to c****av***s, less than 10,000 were people truly k**led by c****av***s. All but those 9,000 plus were people who already had some other serious disease that causes death well before they got c****av***s! Doctors have been told to attribute any death to the c****av***s if it is believed present (because the government pays a much higher hospital charge for that). It's like blaming the death of a lifetime heavy smoker with metasticized final stage lung cancer on c****av***s because his C****-** test happened to give a false positive.

I think the CDC, Dr F***i, and others explained that this information was misinterpreted and misrepresented. Intentionally? The death toll as a result of C****-** is as stated, over 193,000. And does it matter if a person was “truly k**led by c****av***s” or died as a result of complications caused by the v***s. They’re still dead, right?

Worldometers.info reports the US currently has 6,488,728 c****av***s cases, 193,598 deaths and as of January 1, 2021, a projected death toll of 410,451.

To an outsider, it appears it’s politics over science in the US.

From news coverage, it seems the focus is more on what politicians want and less on important things like bringing this v***s under control in the US. Things need to change if that January 1st projection is going to be reduced. And, I wouldn’t be relying on a promised v*****e that may or may not be available or reliable.

The families and friends of those with C****-** or deceased because of it deserve more than empty words.

This is a quote from a well respected and long time soldier, Gen Rick Hillier, not a trade advisor like Navarro, in response to a claim he made in a book wherein he states Canada was trying to curry favour with America when it sent troops to Afghanistan to fight in the war on terrorism.
Canada stood with its ally, America, because it was the right thing to do. Article 5 of NATO states that an attack on one member is an attack on all.
Canada’s mission in Afghanistan lasted 10 years and 158 Canadian soldiers lives were lost because we stood by our ally. And the first 4 Canadian fatalities were caused by friendly fire. A US pilot mistook a live fire training exercise as an attack on him.
In response to Navarro’s comments, Gen Hillier said “I heard from so many friends in the United States today who said ‘This doesn’t represent at all what we believe. We don’t know where this came from. Our relationships are incredible and we served together. We’re proud to serve next to Canadian soldiers’”
During the G7 meetings held in Canada, Navarro said of our Prime Minister that there’s a special place in hell for people like him.
Maybe Navarro should stick to his duties as an advisor. Or maybe not say anything at all.

That makes sense. Thanks!

The tariffs hurt everybody. Last time this was done, Canada targeted goods from Republican states. I expect it will be the same this time.

And let's not forget it's the consumer who pays!

Interesting discussion. For what it’s worth, here’s an outsiders thoughts.

I’m Canadian. While the upcoming e******n is yours, the outcome has a profound impact on the rest of the world.

I and I suspect thousands more around the world always thought America was great. To make America great again will be the job of the next new occupant of the Oval Office as America’s image on the world stage has diminished significantly in the last 3 years. Allies are being treated like enemies, enemies like friends.
I seldom agree with what our Prime Minister says but regarding tariffs put on Canadian aluminum by the US under section 235 I believe it is, is not only ridiculous but insulting. Canada is seen as a threat by the US? Even aluminum producers in America state the recently imposed 10% tariff is unnecessary. And Canada is retaliating by implementing tariffs on a range of American products. So who wins? Did the plastic bottling industry exert pressure to reduce the number of cans beverages are sold in?

Follow the money trail in this and many more similar situations and see where it leads. Did anyone with insider knowledge profit from the promotion of hydroxychloroquine and its subsequent fall from popularity?

According to www.worldometers.info, America has recorded 5,946,039 cases of C****-** and 182,064 deaths. Americans were recently cautioned not to travel to New Zealand because of a v***s outbreak there. That day they had 9 new cases, America had 42,000.

If you haven’t heard of The Parody Project, an American group by the way, please check them out. Their music reflects their feelings about the current state of affairs in the US.

America deserves better than what it is now, at least in my opinion and the rest of the world needs a strong and united United States. I hope things drastically improve and soon.

On a trip to Sedona, Az a few years ago, we took a Pink Jeep archeological tour and saw several petroglyphs including some amazing clan shields that were over 900 years old. Fortunately they were largely unspoiled by the idiots who take pleasure in defacing things more important than them.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone, much appreciated.

Marg, I see your Leafs are practicing social distancing on the golf course, just as the playoffs begin! Sorry, couldn’t resist. Actually it’s easier being a Habs fan here than in was in Ontario!

Glad there’s room for another curmudgeon! You can’t have too many Habs fans or curmudgeons!

I’m a retired economic developer, banker, part-time wedding photographer and full time curmudgeon!

I took advantage of the Covid downtime to learn more about my Nikon D7100 and gained the confidence to take it off automatic, a huge step for me. I have these Nikon lenses - 50mm F1.8, 18-140mm kit lens, F3.5-5.6 and a 75-300mm F 4.5-5.6, the latter I’ve owned for over 25 years. My conclusion is that the camera is yet one more possession smarter than I am!
I own but haven’t used in ages, a D80, a F100 and a Pentax 645 medium format system.

The Rocky Mountains are close to where I live so landscape photography is one of my main interests. I’m intrigued by macro photography and look forward to experimenting. Photographing the grandkids is also a love of mine.

Looking forward to learning a lot from the great photographers at UHH!
