I am wondering whether or not it would be necessary for me to use a Tripod/bipod lens collar when mounting my Nikon p900 which only weighs 899 grams?

Hey all you new Nikon P900 users, we are patiently waiting for some pics and comments about your new camera. I am thinking of buying one and would like some more pros or cons on the new toy.
Thank you all.

Hi katfish - I posted a few pics taken with my recently acquired Nikon P900 and you can find them in Photo Gallery under 1) Magpie and 2) Bits and Pieces. I am a beginner so the pics are not necessarily the best the camera can do.

Hopefully there is a store similar to B&H that ships to the UK. Once you find an effective hood, it would be good if you share your experience here ... there has been quite a bit of interest expressed in the P900. :)

I have just placed an order to Amazon UK for a K&F accessory Kit which includes a 3 stage rubber hood and a flower hood all for £9.99 about $16.00 including carriage. I will most certainly share my experiences on the site. I am starting to enjoy the camera but I have yet to shoot on Manuel - simply getting to know the camera bit by bit

Unfortunately, with an extended range zoom lens, no one hood will be most effective at all focal lengths. About the best you can do is get one for the widest end, and be careful about shading the lens with your hand or hat at all other lengths. This hood is probably the best for this camera:

Edit: You might also want to check out a rubber hood that collapses for wide angle and extends for normal. Seems I recall reading of one that had 3 positions, wide, normal and telephoto.

Thanks you our local camera shop is very expensive so I will have a look online for better prices.

That depends on your requirements and effective focal length.

If you need it for lens protection, almost any hood will help.

Thanks for the reply and advice

Can anyone advise me on what sort of Hood is the best - flower or collapsible - and specifically what should I get for my Nikon coolpix P900.

Thanks Bruce. Every time I venture a guess about an ID, I usually miss the mark. This looks a bit like the "Black-Headed Grosbeak" in my bird book.

vicksart - I think you nailed it - its an adult female !
