Thanks for sharing, the audio attachment was great! We get our share of wildlife including bears and mountain lions here in the foothills north of Los Angeles. A few months ago one of our neighbors saw a mountain lion going up our driveway on the way back to the hills. A few days later, the lady next door smelled something bad and called animal control, and they found pieces of a deer scattered around her yard. We're going to start carrying a baseball bat when we take our 16 year old dog out at night. I can't imagine the uproar if I carried my rifle around at night!

Very attractive lady & nice cube! I would've voted for it if it was entered in the Multiple Exposure photo contest that just ended

Using the TP LInk MR 3040 and one of the freeware/donationware apps gives you the same functionality. If you have to use an Apple device, then DSLR Dashboard is one that offers that. The cost of the TP Link is $35, and it is the exact same device as the one used by Camranger.

Anyone considering a Camranger might be able to save themselves $265. Now THAT'S a deal!

That makes sense.

But unfortunately, I'm retired and too busy spending money to save any. Another example, instead of building a barn door tracker, I bought an iOptron SkyTracker for yet another $300.00. Now that I think about it, I could have been buying the 150-600 lens I want   Oh well, there's aways tomorrow

I have one and I did like it but now it seems something is wrong. I own a Nikon D5200. CamRanger does support the 5200. My problem is that the CamRanger must be plugged into the jack for the remote shutter release. By doing this the "Live View" is disabled, making the CamRanger in useable. Live view is need for the Ranger to work properly.

I may be doing something wrong, have some setting not properly set. I anyone can help me out on this I would be grateful.

My eyesight is not what it used to be and I was hoping I could focus better with the Ranger as I have a couple lenses that are not Auto Focus.

If I could get it to work right I would go ahead and get the remont controlled mount.

I use the CamRanger with a D5300. The Live View on the camera is disabled, because you get CamRanger's Live View on the device you connect it to wirelessly. I've successfully used my Samsung Galaxy S-4 (Android phone), Kindle Fire HD (Android tablet), my wife's iPad 2, my daughter's newer iPad?, and my 2011 MacBook Pro. The notebook is the best choice for my because of the larger screen. The software for each device is a free download. In the 6 month period since I got it, CamRanger has offered free updated firmware on the unit, and added several other features: http://camranger.com/blog/

That's why it was worth $300.00 IMHO. I use it for hummingbirds and the night sky.

Oops, I just notice you said "unless you are on Bell or a Cable system." I'm online with a cable modem.

Useless link. unless you are on Bell or a Cable system you can not view it or any video on this site, and I am in Ontario Canada

The link worked for me, but then I'm only about 45 miles from Ontario, CA. Okay, just messing with you. I'm about 2,020 miles from Ontario, Canada. I used to get sales leads for Ontario, Canada because my company confused it with Ontario, California.

But the link did work here in the Los Angeles suburbs.

I am curious if anyone has any experience or specific recommendations on choices of Androids for controlling a DSLR for doing time lapse photography using WiFi.

Thanks

Take a look at the CamRanger. I haven't tried time lapse, but I've used it with my Samsung Galaxy phone, Kindle Fire tablet, iPad & MacBook Pro to photograph hummingbirds & for long exposures of various things in the sky. They also have free software to use on PC's and other Android tablets. I have an ac adapter for it, but since the battery life is really great without it, I seldom use it. Good luck with whatever you decide to use.

Added night three Jan 19, 2015. I increased the exposure time to 30 seconds and wah-lah the tail is visible. Of course the stars are now elongated as the camera was not guided.

Nice, what time are you seeing it? I've been looking for 2 weeks.

I'd been trying to decide between switching to a Mac or upgrading to a better Windows laptop. One of my daughters heard me and gave me the MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011) we bought her when she was in school. Since she has a PC laptop at work, and uses an iPad & iPhone for everything else, she hasn't used it for awhile.

I maxed the memory (unfortunately it will only take 8 GB), upgraded the operating system to Mavericks (for free) and then to Yosemite (also free) and it works great.

I downloaded Microsoft Office Mac Home and Student 2011 from Amazon for $118.96. I includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook for Mac 2011. I had no problems using spreadsheets from Windows on the Mac. Having tried in the other direction, but everything is supposed to be compatible.

Having used PC's since 1983 I thought there would be a big learning curve switching to the Mac world, but it was really painless.

So my suggestion to Pepper is: Go for the Mac!

Now I need to get some good photo software. I was using Nikon ViewNX 2 and Picasa. I tried Photoshop 10+ years ago and it was to complex to deal with. Suggestions?

Thanks for pointing out the video. It was great and really pulled me into your shooting experience! Then I got pulled into the other photos on your Flicker page. I made it to the cow train and decided to bookmark it for later. Now...as TucsonCoyote asked..tell us more about the redhead..if you can.

I spent a week in ABQ last November. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to see that critter. How big is it?
