I am curious if anyone has any experience or specific recommendations on choices of Androids for controlling a DSLR for doing time lapse photography using WiFi.
Thanks

Depends on your Camera - Canon? There is an Android App to control a Canon Camera with build in Wi-Fi. Canon 6D. The App is called EOS Remote.
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/standard_display/EOS_appDo I have experience using my smartphone with my camera? No, but I have been looking into this for a while. I have a Canon 60D but I am looking to buy a Canon with Wi-Fi build-in. I will definitely look into connect phone and camera for remote shooting.

I have used several and they do work BUT now you have two or more sets of batteries to worry about. Plus when one dies and you change it you have to re-set up your shot again. I found it just tooooo cumbersome and restrictive especially when you have to carry all the extra weight hiking up the mountain. As I am a Canon owner I have downloaded and installed Magic Lantern which is an ad on to the Canon firmware (not a replacement so no warranty issues) I am now kicking myself for not doing this sooner. Built in (up to) 9 step exposure bracketing, Timelapse, AETTR (the excellent replacement for bulb ramping), focus stacking, motion trigger, focus trap and numerous other bells and whistles. Batteries die? No worries, a quick replacement and you are ready to continue with no resetting.
I highly recommend this for Canon owners. Not available for Nikon's or other cameras. :D  :D  :D

Take a look at the CamRanger. I haven't tried time lapse, but I've used it with my Samsung Galaxy phone, Kindle Fire tablet, iPad & MacBook Pro to photograph hummingbirds & for long exposures of various things in the sky. They also have free software to use on PC's and other Android tablets. I have an ac adapter for it, but since the battery life is really great without it, I seldom use it. Good luck with whatever you decide to use.

I'm not afraid of technology but I am an advocate of keeping it simple, and that said I try not to hold to much faith in all this techno crap as its prone to fail more or has a tendency to be its most troublesome out on a shoot, I still put my faith in exposure math, my watch, and a simple shutter cable release or simple shutter trigger release that requires no batteries to function.
I have learned by self experience and others that we always seem to forget an item or the equipment fails then your just out of luck on capturing that image due to a glitch in the electronics compatibility

I hear what you are saying. My interest is in macro time lapse-- and the events I wish to capture would take place over several days. I would likely only attend to the set-up to swap out the power source.
Good info, what camera are you using it on?
I have a 50d I am thinking of installing ML on, but just haven't dove in... yet.

I also use 2 - 50D's and have ML now on all cards. I made that mistake during an HDR gigapan and ran out of room on the one card but no ML on the other cards so finished without HDR which made it all useless. Oh, sorry for the delay in answering, I have been away on vacation and am just catching up.
