They eat the male after mating. Not sure I am too on board with that. Don't really know if this one is female or male. Don't know how to tell the difference. But no longer see them often enough and they are neat insects. ISO 1000, f/22 1/160. Canon 80 D with canon 100 macro lens. Turned out well I think.

sorry, on first post I forgot the photo.

My go to lens is a Tamron 18-400 and my long lens is a Tamron 150-600 on a Canon 80D so it has already got a crop factor. I am thinking of adding a 1.4 teleconverter. I am aware it may not work with the longer lens but should with the shorter zoom. I know I will lose 1 stop average and auto focus will be slower. I have bad eyes and cannot manual focus ever since they did away with the spit screen ( wish that would return).

My question is how much sharpness in general might I expect to lose. Minimal and barely noticible or just nasty changes? Or do I need to buy the converter and see, and risk owning something I might dislike?

Anyone have any experience?

Thanks
David

Obviously i need to spend more than I knew...that was my ignorance since I actually only rarely use a tripod. A lot to learn and thanks all, for the tips. All i knew about the heads was what came on my tripods now..a screw mechanism similar. Again, thanks alot!

trying to stay under 2 or 250$. not sure if that is doable. I want to strap it on my back for hiking and not feel too weighted down.

I have 2 recommendations. 1st: Sirui Carbon Fiber tripod EN-2204 with either a Sirui K-10X ball head or Nest NT-5308 gimbal. 2nd: Vanguard aluminum Alta Pro 263 AT with an Alta BH-250 ball head. I strap the Sirui to my backpack for wildlife / birding hikes. The nice thing about the Vanguard is that you can move the center column at all different angles. I understand there is a newer Alta Pro 2 model.

I have several lightweight and sort of lightweight tripods but they drift when i mount my Tamron 150-600 lens . The local camera shop wants to sell me a "behemoth" that is heavy enough to be near worthless to carry around without a 4 wheel dolly. any suggestions for a tripod that could still be shoulder carried yet be sturdy enough to handle this lens?

Thanks
David

No reason to turn this into a political discussion de novo. Plenty of conservatives also are in favor of prochoice.

Thanks. The advice is welcome. i did one severe crop that makes the cheetahs the center of attention but then i loose the feeling of the vastness of the plains. Have to play around.
