I don't undersand why these animal rights organizations continue with their disturbing commercials. I find them offensive and manipulative. Beleive me I am a strong animal protection supporter. Unless the program I'm watching is recorded (fast foward) I quickly change channels and often find somethng else to watch. Don't they realize that most people fiind them disturbing and avoid watching them. I sent money once years ago and was constantly bombarded with emails, snail mail, and phone calls looking for more money. I truly wan't to support them but I won't anymore. I no longer watch any shows that show these commercials. Does anyone else feel like I do?

I know what you mean. Send them money one time and they NEVER stop bugging you. NEVER! It's tough to choose a charity that won't do that.

I sometimes give anonymously from the checkout stand in my grocery store that way it won't come back on me. Sometimes I choose one from the internet while browsing but give a fake or wrong phone and email address. I also give to people that I know personally that I know I can help and they won't be hounding me for more. Those "Go Fund Me" things are good for that. This way you know that almost all the money is going to a person you can help. You still need to be careful and vet the charity. There are a lot of shitheads out there that collect on behalf of someone that is in need and they just keep the money. Those are the worse bottom dwellers on earth.

I don't find them anymore intrusive than any of the other charities. I overlook it even though like you I don't like it but doing nothing doesn't help the animals that need it.

What's worse is that the same people trying to save all those animals are abortion loving liberals. Kill the babies, save the puppies. I don't get it. that's my rant.

That's because tugging at the heart strings usually works.

Somewhat...

That's the same across the board, send money to an organization ( no matter which one) and they never let you hear the end of it!

in the UK The Royal Society for the Protection of Animals is the richest charity.
Save the children comes way behind it financially.

Where I worked we had a swan in a lock sluice. Member of the public called the RSPCA who turned up and phoned for their media person to come. As it was a canal, she called up the Fire and Rescue 'water team' for a safety boat (which at the time was stretched by the New Zealand Earthquake rescue)...so was going to be several hours.
having created a crowd....a local man got on his knees and hooked the swan out of the sluice with his walking stick! To the annoyance of the RSPCA. She then buggered off and left before the Fire and Rescue arrived (didn't cancel the call).

Do you really want to give money to a charity that works like that!!!

I won't

That's why I choose to do it anonymously or to an individual.

My wife and I give to numerous charities. But: directly to the charity. If I receive a mail or phone solicitation I don't give a them dime. Why, because most of the time these people are telemarketers and only about 15% of what they collect is required to be given to the charity. When they call just ask them what percentage of your donation will actually go to the charity and how much they keep. They are required by law to tell you but usually you will start getting a lot of stuttering and evasive rattling and they try not to give your a direct answer. Be persistent. They have to tell you. Don't not give to charities just give wisely.

As a farmer, I see most of those animal protection groups as misguided at best. Much of their action is against farmers who raise animals for meat, eggs, wool, labor, etc. Farmers are depicted as cruel and hard on their animals. While there are bad apples in every group, farmers as a whole are good to their animals. After all, there's no point in damaging your crops or tools.

As a bad example, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is a radical animal rights group that inaccurately portrays itself as a mainstream animal care organization. The words “humane society” may appear on its letterhead, but HSUS is not affiliated with your local animal shelter. The Humane Sociiety of the US (HSUS) has been convicted of racketeering. In spite of their advertising that they support animal shelters, they only give 1% of their budget to local pet shelters and the HSUS doesn't even operate one pet shelter of its own. They would like to eliminate all farm animals and pets. They strongly espouse a vegan lifestyle. I have nothing against vegans (there are a couple in my family) but I am strongly against someone trying to foist their lifestyle on others.

NOTE: Local humane societies are not the same as HSUS, and most of them are probably reputable organizations. HSUS gives a lot of good organizations a bad name.

Another bad apple is PETA. They claim they want to save animals, but they run kill shelters. They have been associated with terrorist activities against farms.

My main concern was the offensive commercials and not the actual organization. Im talking about the ASPCA. They don't need to be so graphic. I don't need to see a leopard crying in pain while in a foot trap. Turns me off.

I agree some very painful to watch but we always have the option to watch something else and not watch that particular commercial. Some people need to be hit square between the eyes to get their attention and move them to action.

I only give to one animal help charity, the Humane Society International. They are very instrumental in getting dog meat farms closed down in S. Korea and other Asian countries. They help get the owners into some other kind of occupation.
They have the dogs flown back to the United States or Canada, and after getting the dogs taken care of, get them adopted out.
I give a monthly donation to them and get updates about what they have done as far as helping animals.

will
