LR keeps the original and saves the edit history.

(You can write the history from your PS edits if you do it before you close the session. However, I have not really found any good way to re-use the PS history, probably because I haven't put much effort into it).

I don't use PS either.

Pressing Ctrl-B opens the backup window. Clicking "Save Backup" sends the backup files to D. Those same files also go to C.

Again, version difference?
Mine just does one backup when I click on backup from the pull-down menu.
But when (not always) it does an automatic backup on exit, the little pop-up explicitly states "automatic copy".

The operating files are updated when it closes, but they are not a backup.

A photographer brings their camera.

If they don't, it becomes an "aww shit" moment.

My cell phone takes exceptional pictures too but I find it just as exceptionally awkward to use. . .

Agreed, that's what I find also. I find a "full bodied" camera more ergonomically comfortable to use.
My S-III made taking panos SO easy (up/down indicator as one moved.). I haven't tried my S-21 for panos yet.
But I will.

What have we been telling you for now over 7 years ... ?

Probably the same thing.
Since I don't use/want it, it's irrelephant [sic] to me, so why remember all the nitty-gritty details about it?
I have enough problems sometimes remembering important things.

What went to C:\Users - Documents\Quicken, the automatic backup? Which is separate from the "primary" (user requested) backup. The automatic backup is like an auxiliary backup.

Version difference?

LR never touches the original.

You view proxy images made from the original with your adjustments applied.

You export conversions with your adjustments applied.

You print conversions with your adjustments applied.

You compose photo books and slide shows with your adjustments applied.

You send copies to other applications with your adjustments applied.

This is the same "touch pixels once" workflow model used by professional photo lab software such as Kodak DP2. (Yes, still available for labs in version 22!)

Cool. Non-destructive editing, I like that.
Too bad I don't have (or want) LR.

Some scanners last a long time. We bought an early iMac DV around 2000. It came in a bundle with a cheap Agfa flatbed scanner. We used that in the office for as long as we could find a driver for it. When I couldn't, I took it to an electronics recycler. If I'd known about VueScan at the time, we would probably still use it. It was adequate for single page documents.

The -210 came out around 2010, after your need.

I tell it where to put the backups - D:\Backups\ etc., and that's where the backups go. They also go to C.

Quicken can be set for dual backup locations?
Or are you referring to the Quicken automatic backups going to C:.

My one scanner is old (Canon LiDE-210). I have no idea how many bits per color channel it uses.
It scans... nicely. That's all I care about

WOW - I just checked. The 210 was installed on my system in March of 2013! Nine years old!
My how time flies when you're having fun.
