You apparently have a very small circle of acquaintances. On this forum alone, there's a ton of us who came home, quietly got our degrees and went to work. One day I was at lunch with several of my co-workers and a similar conversation came up, mostly denigrating Viet Nam vets. I quietly reminded them that I was one, and in an effort to back peddle, one suggested I was the sanest vet he ever met. I simply said "You don't know what drugs I'm on!" After that, a very pregnant pause before any more conversation...on a new subject.

Maybe it does not matter to you, and that's fine, stay quiet if that's your preferance. But it seems to be the calling card of about half of the people here! I don't know if they went on and worked as doctors, lawyers, accountants, teachers, truck drivers, forklift drivers, janitors or wh**ever!! I've never heard one say they came back, got the GI bill and graduated from college.
But we all know they were in the military! In fact they seem to disparage ANYBODY with an education or that has made anything of themselves, especially professionals, which tells me they themselves were never educated, which seems quite typical. I see it as pure jealousy, the fact that their lives have gone nowhere. A few here don't mention it, so the conservative ones with the BIG mouths will push them and push them...., as if their service was somehow better than someone else's service that is a liberal. Maybe they just don't realize they were on the same team!!! As far as I can tell, it defines pretty much their entire existence!
