I didn't know what it was at first, until I studied it a bit. I can see the whole width of the jaw underwater. Looks massive. I especially like the red eye on the left side. What causes the red? Or is that added in post?

Great image

Great shot Regis! Really nice quality to the photo. You have great technique with that new lens, and your post processing is unique and quite impressive as always. F10 brought everything into focus on this one. Love it!

Unfortunately Jesus wasn't born on December 25th, in fact he wasn't even born during this time of the year! Santa Clause is the reason for the season. Only a few shopping days left, so spend and drink heartily.

Alan, when was he born?

Yeah, that 50mp is shining through one these! I like the first two for the EXTREME detail. Very good job making a common subject just spectacular!

He's got his eyes on you! Great shot and congrats on the new lens! A few years ago I bought both TC's and returned them thinking they were worthless. I recently re bought them and found out the problem was me, not the TC's!

Mark, your original post looks like the question you posed to your insurance company, not the response. Did they respond?
Thanks!

Say Fullframe, I noticed that you are now using the Canon 1DXMKII, how much did that help? Right now sitting on the fence between the 1DX and the 1DXMKII. I don't do any video and it's about a $1,400.00 difference. My 7DMKII uses the Dual Digic 6 Processors but I see that the 1DXMKII uses a Dual Digic 6+ Processor. I've shot the Belted Kingfisher with the 600mm f/4.0 with the Canon 1.4 III on a 7DMKII for 1344mm, wouldn't have thought about using the 2x III, until now but on my FF. Did use the 600mm f4.0 with the Canon 2x III in Yellowstone shooting wolves trying to bring down a Bison at about 1 and 1/4 mile, not a wall hanger but a good series of how they do it. In live view I use the 2x for a better look at sitting birds like Owls. Shooting at F/9 gave you the DOF for that small Kingfisher, more often then not I don't have the luxury of shooting at F/9 do to the low light. Do you use the cable release for those long shots? Your detail for such a long shot is inspiring.

Thanks RRS :) I don't think the 1DXII helped on this shot of stationary subjects. I think my 5dm3 would have nailed the focus too with 2mp more to help with cropping. I can definitely tell the difference between 20.2 mp and 22.whatever on my 4k screen. Where the 1DXII shines is the autofocus speed for quickly moving objects. I actually use 61 point autofocus for flying birds and it tracks them right along. With these shots I used single point focus. The 1DXII and 5dM4 now do 61 point auto with the 2x TC. The trick to the 2x TC is being very still and with some luck I can usually get some good frames. Low keeper rate though.

F8 is the widest available with the 2x TC, so I think even F8 (vF9 shot) would have produced a good kingfisher shot. No release cable, just my finger. And I use back button focus, and sometimes a third finger on the DOF button, which I have programed for different focus points. So sometimes three fingers pressing on the body which probably is why it's hard to keep steady, even on a tripod. The Heron shots above were done that way...three finger charlie! I have 61 point auto as default and press the DOF button for single point. I have other custom modes (C1, C2, C3) set up similarly for other scenarios (sports, etc).

I appreciate you looking and your kind comments!

Great photos at 600mm x 2X. I was surprised to see this much detail considering the distance, fullframe.

Thanks Regis! I've got to spend some more time here at UHH. I need to catch up on all your fantastic photographs!

Good sharpness is definitely achievable, but it was difficult as even with IS, I could see slight movements in the viewfinder. I was at the mercy of the wind, the shutter slap, the subject slightly moving, and of course myself! I tried to stop down, but the difference between F8 (widest open with 2x TC), and F11 was negligible.
