As one of my friends said: It is much better to be over the hill than under the hill - keep moving and shooting (pictures)!

If you're planning to visit Oregon and include the upper Cascade Mountains, the Oregon Gardens is a delightful visit full of opportunity for photographers. And an added bonus is the Oregon Gardens Resort lodging which provided the nicest stay of my recent trip and at the best price--a win-win situation for visitors.
Since I am not a macro photographer, I can't do justice to all the gorgeous blooms, but even landscapers will enjoy the gardens.

Hi Diane, I am many days behind catching up on the UHH postings, so saw your pictures just now - beautiful as ever - you do have a good eye and visit great places!

Munson Creek Falls is about a quarter mile easy hike to the eighth tallest waterfall in Oregon. It's a seldom visited trail that is void of human sounds and dripping in moss, only the song of birds accompanies you up the path.

Found your post - thanks for educating me on the " how to's". Very nice shorts, I like them all, can't make up my mind whether I prefer the short or long views, they are all so special. Maybe I head down there one of these years myself.

Great shots, Diane, I love fireworks and you really nailed them both in the bursts and the reflections! Now I have to go and find your other Oregon picutres!

Arrived at Fogarty Beach late in the afternoon--too late for the sun to be behind me and too early for the sunset--another wrong place, wrong time. Then I found this protected nook in the rocks and saw how beautifully lit the surf was.

Great shot - wonderful to hear and see that you have arrived for your Oregon Coast adventure! Enjoy your days!

We will be traveling to the Palouse and the coast of Oregon for a glorious photo trip of 16 days this summer. My photo friend and I will be flying in and out of Spokane renting a car and driving from place to place stopping for a few days in Colfax, Mitchell Washington (painted hills) and then on to Banden Oregon where we will drive up the coast stopping at various towns for a few days at a time. Aside from checking out the many places to photograph that we have checked out from the internet, does anyone have any hidden wonders to see? Also, we will be flying home from Spokane at the end of our trip so we can use help in finding the most picturesque route from seaside Oregon back to Spokane. Thanks.

Seal Rock State recreation site has spectacular multi-colored rock ledges and tidal pools, if you get the tides right. I am on a trip right now and don't have access to all my data but in you are interested, you can click on my website (in my avatar), click on the USA/Oregon album in August 2010 and you can get an idea. Click on an individual picture to open it up and you will get the location and other data. Good luck and have a great trip to a fantastic area.

Hi Jerry - not sure about the context, but 2015 has already been around for a bunch of months, maybe we should set our review marker to 2025?

Has anyone sent there old home movies off to be converted to digital? If you have what company do you recommend? I am starting the quest to have 16mm rolls sent off but would like to gain some knowledge before blindly picking a company.

Thanks in advance to anyone who might reply.

I sent a bunch of 8 mm film reels to my local Costco, and in my honest opinion they did a stellar job converting these to digital. I suggest you try them, or any other supplier out with a roll or two and see how you like their work.

My first love, at about age 13 was a Kodak Retina, then about 5-10 years later a Minolta SRT101 - and shortly thereafter a second of the same, so that I could separately shoot B&W and the upcoming color diapositives - loved that SRT101 to pieces - the split screen focusing, the needle and loop exposure, etc, then I had a bit of bad experiences with a slew of other cameras but am now happily ensconced into the Nikon world.

My wife and I are going to Bolivia this summer attend a wedding in the city of Cocibamba. If any of my fellow hogs have been to the city or the country, I would appreciate any tips you can offer. I am planing to take my Nikon 800e and d7000 as a back up, plus the trinity zooms (14-24, 24-70, 70-200). This will be mostly a pleasure trip (I hope) but would like to get some keeper images. I am a very eclectic photographer and enjoy capturing all kinds of images. I was recently in Cuba and mostly did street photography, and it worked out great. I might do the same on this trip, but I am open to suggestions and opportunities. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

There is a great archeological site - Tiwanaku/Tiahuanaco - within a reasonable car ride (about 2 hours) from La Paz - look it up if you are interested - we had a nice and very interesting day-trip to that area about twenty years ago.

Good luck on exploring some segments of Bolivia!

No, but we can hope that evolution of the programs will be gradual and that the images will go through a multistep migration to whatever future format comes along.

Indeed, the captions I entered in my earlier Picasa versions show up well in Lightroom, thus there should be some expectation that such integral info will morph into future software evolution - anyway, I definitely won't be along in 50 years and who is going to look at my pictures then?

I have recently switched from Aperture 3 to Photos For Mac and I am very disappointed. I have scheduled a One-To-One session at the Apple Store on how to use Photos just in case I'm missing something, but based on my experience with Photos so far I am not expecting much.
I hear a lot about LightRoom, and when Photos was first announced there were many people here on UHH recommending LightRoom. But also I see very many subject titles on Main Photography Discussion from people having problems with LightRoom. That makes me wonder if LightRoom is all it's cracked up to be and really as good as the people who use it say it is.
I would also like any recommendations about other editing programs. And I would like to hear from other former Aperture users on what they are using now.
Thank you
Mac

I just switched a few months ago from using Picasa for about 5 years to LR5, took a bit of time to really understand how the sliders and features work, but then found that I have so much more fine tuning available that I am now very happy with the switch.
