I mainly do architectural and landscape photography. I have been asked by several people to do some portrait work. I realize this is a different ballgame. I have the cameras (D 750 and D 850), and lights (Flashpoint 600, 360, 200, and speed light as well as a Flashpoint ring flash), and for this purpose a Sigma 105, F 2.8. I have several Glow 28 " diffusers, reflectors, stands and controllers, but lack the experience or expertise to use them in a studio portrait environment. What book(s) or videos would you suggest to get me started? Thanks in advance for any guidance you may be able to provide.
Another vote for Nisi quality.
I am not IT expert but those in my office recommend delaying any upgrades from Microsoft for 45 days or so to give Microsoft time to work out any bugs that others may discover after the automatic updates are automatically installed. The auto updates essentially act like a beta test for Microsoft. Go into Settings, Update and Security and delay automatic updates. Just my two cents. Good luck.
I agree on Flashpoint from Adorama. I have 4 from the 600 watt second down to the speed light. Very functional system and very well priced for the functionality.
Jim Bart, well stated and I could not agree more. Thank you for attempting to raise the level of discourse. I hope you/we are successful. Happy Thanksgiving to all.
Bought one made by the Vest Guy from Adorama to use in lieu of my backpack from Manfrotto but returned the vest the next day. It was well made but way too bulky and I felt and looked kind of stupid in it (probably not the vest’s fault) I’m going to stay with the backpack or if I want to dress up my Billingsley.
I recently bought the same lens and while the videos and forums are great resources, I like a book as well. I bought three on Amazon, by far the best of what I considered the best three on Amazon was The Complete Guide to Macro and Close-Up Photography by Cyril Harnischmacher, published by rockynook. IMHO this is the only book on closeup/macro photography that you will need.
I purchased the Sigma Art 14-24 2.8 from Adorama in May 2018 for $1199. I shoot with Nikon D750 and D850. Read the reviews with which I concur, this is a great lens, a bit prone to flare due to the bulbous front element but technique and a bit of PP handles this. Nisi makes a great filter holder for this lens and highly recommend it and their ND filters if you are into slowing water motion. It is a massive lens but seems well balanced. I thought it was a great deal at $ 1199 when compared to Nikon 14-24 2.8 and so did the reviewers. For $ 899 I would jump all over it.
I truly admire the artistry and presentation, thank you for the inspiration.
Thanks for brightening my day.
Totally agree regarding the extremely helpful review. If he follows through he will go from a D (generous) to an A.
One more vote for NISI. Quality filters and mounts and great customer service.
Try pro media gear. I have both their standard and elongated L bracket for my D850 very well made. Made in the USA. Don’t know for sure if they have one for your model but if they do I highly recommend it.
