This is one of our favorite places to hike when my wife and I visit my sister and her family each spring around April for Greek Easter. With 1,216 uninterrupted acres, Rollins Savanna is one of Lake County, Illinois' largest forest preserves. The habitat within the park is a testament to what prairie and wetland restoration can look like. Native grasslands roll across the preserve with scattered marshes and ponds throughout. Rollins is one of the best places in Lake County to find breeding grassland species that need quality habitat. A 5.6-mile trail with bridges and boardwalks encircles the preserve. This multi-use trail is open for hiking, bicycling, cross-country skiing, and nature/wildlife observation.

The Biltmore Estate's annual sunflower patch was in full bloom when my wife and I visited earlier this month, with flowers standing as tall as 8 feet high. The flowers stretch nearly 1 mile along the road that takes guests from Biltmore House to Antler Hill Village and the Winery.
According to a press release, estate workers plant seeds in two waves to guarantee a longer bloom window. As many as 144,000 sunflower plants will bloom through the season.
My wife and I stayed at a Residence Inn on Canal Walk in downtown Indianapolis while passing through on our way up to Chicago to visit my sister and her family back in May. We took advantage of the location to stroll along the walk and take some pictures.
The Canal Walk is part of the Indiana Central Canal, which was dug in the early 1800s, in an effort to facilitate interstate commerce. Today, the refurbished Canal Walk (stretching north through White River State Park to 11th Street) serves the downtown community as a waterside promenade for walkers, runners, bikers and sightseers (while the canal itself includes a steady stream of pedal boats, which may be rented west of the Indiana State Museum).
Please note that I took creative liberty in post processing with the sky's, water, and pavement in several of these photos using Luminar AI and Landscape Pro software.
