My wife and I stayed at a Residence Inn on Canal Walk in downtown Indianapolis while passing through on our way up to Chicago to visit my sister and her family back in May. We took advantage of the location to stroll along the walk and take some pictures.
The Canal Walk is part of the Indiana Central Canal, which was dug in the early 1800s, in an effort to facilitate interstate commerce. Today, the refurbished Canal Walk (stretching north through White River State Park to 11th Street) serves the downtown community as a waterside promenade for walkers, runners, bikers and sightseers (while the canal itself includes a steady stream of pedal boats, which may be rented west of the Indiana State Museum).
Please note that I took creative liberty in post processing with the sky's, water, and pavement in several of these photos using Luminar AI and Landscape Pro software.
Wonderful views! I walked along much of the canal, but never with a camera. Thank you for the reminders.
Beautiful work! The natural skies were pretty good already.

Very nice tour thanks. Is there any traffic on the canal?
Nice work with the canal photos--enjoyed! I have shot some of the canal from the Eiteljorg Museum area, but not to the extent you have. I t is indeed a photogenic area.
Striking images - quite eye-catching. Well done!
Thanks! Indianapolis is my hometown which I visited frequently until my mother died in 1995. My daughter was a student at that other school in Bloomington until 1998 so I had touch and go encounters until 1998. I also went back for HS class reunions, Ben Davis ‘59. For the 50th the organizers had arranged a group walking tour of the canal for those who had strayed away which was my first introduction to the renewal. Trust me in the 50s and 60s that was not the most attractive part of town!
I also enjoyed the extensive coverage of the town during this years final four. Only the Butler Field House was in existence back in the day. Quite a redo! BTW Oscar Robertson is the greatest basketball player of all time at every level.
Very good series, Stavros.
Looks like a great place to walk. Excellent photos.
