And the keeper rate for BIF was pretty low.

Certainly the redundancy rate was much lower!

I can’t imagine in almost 2021 why anyone would want use manual focus for BIF.

Before autofocus we learned to think.

Add to all of that - you need good lighting to use a split screen... especially tough if you are in a studio with low levels of modelling light.

The OP is using a telephoto lens - he's not likely to be in a studio. And the later K screens didn't black out even at f/11. Not sure about the knock-offs, though.

You also need to know that your camera has an APS-C crop sensor and you have to have a compatible lens. Stick with Nikon lenses and choose the ones that are APS-C compatible.

Which Nikon F mount lenses are not DX compatible?

If we're lucky, Admin will move this tripe out of Main Photography!

The Geminid Meteor Shower will be Sunday night, December 13 into Monday morning, December 14, 2020. With no interference from moonlight, this should be a good year for the Geminids. Under ideal conditions this shower should peak at 140 to 150 visible meteors per hour.

Anyone have some good trick to use for shooting meteors?

You can generally find good advice on astronomical photography in the Astronomical Photography Forum:

Or one could simply shoot with various focal lengths and see the results their self - no need for someone else to tell them what they're looking at. (Assuming, of course, they can think for themselves.)

Please specify the problems you’ve personally encountered. TIA

Since my post the OP has said he's looking for a "walk around lens," which answered my question perfectly. Anything I can add now would be superfluous.

I would like to hear from members that have this combination and would they recommend purchasing this lens for use on the D810

How low are your image quality requirements?

As I understand it, focus is achieved by moving the camera relative to the subject. Tho the movements are small, my question is, does not the perspective vary from one position to another? Let's say I am photo stacking a screw or a nail on a diagonal with the front, or top of the screw being much closer to the camera than the farther away point. Do you get my point?

Are you talking about "photo" stacking or "focus" stacking? (They are not the same thing.)

Can someone confirm that this lens will work, (AF, etc) on my D5600?

You also could have looked in the user's manual under Compatible Lenses.

(Many people don't catch the category pull-down and thus use the "default" category.)

Too true. If folks would read the rules (Admin's suggestions), they could avoid the disappointment of having their pictures moved to the appropriate section.

My photo was chosen as one of the top 5 in a local non-profit photo contest. (I’m pretty excited! I’m an amateur.)

In lieu of trained and official judges, the winner will be determined by popular voting on Facebook and Instagram. This has become quite common lately. I have accounts on each, but rarely use them and have few ‘friends’ or ‘followers.’ My question: is it ethical and appropriate to text/email my real-life friends and photo club members, tell them my situation, and ask them to consider voting for my photo?

Also, may I vote for my own photo? (Voters are not anonymous!)

[In this contest, voters do not have to pay anything to vote. Some organizations have instituted a small fee for fund-raising. ]

Thanks!

If the picture is good enough, it will get the votes without your solitation.

Regarding the Micro Nikkor AF-S 85mm f/3.5 VR, amfoto wrote: "One drawback is that this lens is not internal focusing. It increases in length when focused to the higher magnifications, which to some extent reduces working distance between the front of the lens and the subject."
In fact, this lens is internal focusing, it does not increase in length when focused closer. Front of lens to subject distance at the closest focus is about 5 1/2 inches.
