Well, I partially succumbed to a GAS attack this week and bought a used Sigma 100-400 DG OS HSM|C from MPB. I checked out the prices and availability at four main competitors. One didn't have any in stock, the other three had inventory that either wasn't rated as to quality or was rated good. MPB had two, both rated E+. MPB's price was about $100 +/- less than any of the others. MPB offered expedited overnight shipping for about $24, two day delivery of a little less, and free delivery if you aren't in a hurry. I took the free delivery option, and the lens came overnight.

The weight of the lens surprised me. It is about 2 and a half times the weight of the Nikkor 70-300mm it is replacing, but it feels solid and is comfortable to use. I especially like the range limiter switch and the near silent hsm autofocus motor. I love the quality. In my view, it is outstanding for a zoom lens. I am looking forward to using it at the Atlantic City Air Show in August. Next acquisition will be the Sigma 150-600 Contemporary.

I will post some photos in the birds sub-gallery in a couple of hours.

Not my favorite bird but I find them attractive, entertaining and don't mind feeding them.

They are beautiful birds, for sure.

As Spring gets into full swing, our neighborhood is full of flower photo ops. The dog walks are now floral expeditions.

Comment and suggestions are welcome.

were these dogs looking for forever home or just there to have the photo taken for a fee?

Owners of the dogs were asked to make a donation and get their pet's photo taken for free. The Humane Society was giving out information about the work they do and the animals that currently need homes. They brought along a litter of kittens that were ready for adoption. As a bonus, you could pay to dunk the new mayor in a water tank. I gather he's not too popular so there were lots of takers! They could also dunk the local fire and police chiefs. Dunking must have raised a lot of money!

Spent the last several days setting up my new computer. With all the programs and plug-ins I was using, my 8 year old 32GB, I7 processer computer made post processing a chore.

What took time is I went from win10 home to win11 pro. Old work flow needed modification. Fortunately most of my files were on external drives.

I bought a stripped down gaming model with 64GB ram, 2TB SSD, no DVD, keyboard and mouse. Plenty of USB connectors.

I am happier than a you know what!

A local pet shop asked my granddaughter and I to take a few photos at a Humane Society fundraiser. Here's a few of the cute dogs who lined up for the photo booth. My favourite was that handsome Staffie.

I was taking photos of this graduating group - all wearing something blue, when the handsome lad in the second photo decided to have a little fun. Of, course he wanted to shake himself off all over those pretty dresses.

I usually tend to crop in (too?) tightly. In this photo I deliberately left the drake in the photo to convey the inference that she was dancing for him, which was my initial reaction to the show she had put on. Now upon rethinking, because I like the hen and her shadow so much, is the drake a necessary part of the image? Should I crop him out like another of hers posted in the Bird in flight, Birds in water section.
All comments and suggestions are welcome.

Leave the drake in - she is performing for him.

A recent visit to Perdido Key, Florida only offered one really nice day. A walk on the beach afforded a few photo ops, including this one where a bird is not the least bothered by fishing poles as he or she searches for a next meal.

It's probably learned that most of the fish caught on the rods get thrown back or handed to the birds.

Thank you for that! I've been hating the overuse of the word for a good long while. That is when it's used unnecessarily. For instance, you don't serve up a hamburger. You serve it to someone. What about "Listen up". You only need to say "Listen" etc., etc., etc.
