This is a good start. I see that your shutter speed was 1/400. If these were shot handheld, that probably is a little too slow. However, I see that your iso was bumped to 3200. Perhaps you did not have good light? The reason I mention this is that your photos are a little soft. A 150-600 at 600 focal length will usually be a little soft, also. I do like your images, this is just my opinion. Keep posting.

Thanks for the fine feedback kpmac! I was using a tripod, but did not have a remote shutter switch which may have added to the softness as I no doubt got some vibrations. You were correct about not having good light - shadows under tree canopy. I was trying to get a photo of a great looking red-headed woodpecker, but maybe another day. He was pretty shy! I noticed the thrasher in the grass.

I keep trying until I get it right.

This is my first photo post. Pictures were taken in my backyard. This was the first Brown Thrasher I saw this season. I am using a Canon 5D Mark iii and a Sigma 150-600mm Sport zoom.

I love the race! I would consider cropping it to a vertical version. I like having some "depth" below the birds and eliminating the flowers on the right. Nice set. Go win!

I would second the Badlands which is within a couple of miles of Wall Drug. The Deadwood cemetery is well worth a visit to see where Wild Bill Hickok (who was shot during a card game in Deadwood) and Calamity Jane are buried as well as the grave of a lady who was buried with her pet parrot!

If you are into steam trains you can ride the 1880 train from Hill City to Keystone. Great for train photos!

The Needles Highway and the Cathedral Spires in South Dakota provide prime photo ops. Go to https://www.allblackhills.com/nature/cathedral_spires.php#content

Vortex has a number of really nice binoculars! I did in store (Cabelas) testing of their brand to much more expensive ones and Vortex easily outclassed them. In addition they have an exceptional warranty that I used. I was turkey hunting and lost a front lens protector. I emailed Vortex and they sent me a new one for free in two days! I am told that they even replace binocs which were accidentally damaged (like running over them with a pickup)!

The model I purchased was: Vortex® Diamondback 10x42 Binoculars, which is available for $229. I paid $175 when they were on sale.

No I do not own stock in Vortex!
