My only problem is: in avoiding the austerity/deficit reduction route, there needs to be a bucket of money somewhere to redistribute and I see no such bucket of money. Unless...it is simply stolen from the wealthy.
"Redistribution," is often the ironic recourse of the plutocracy defending its ill-gotten gains. They ply government officials, elected and appointed, with money to set up conditions favorable for them to grab everyone else's chips, then cry "class warfare" when someone has the temerity to identify what they did. This is one of those debate ending slogans, like "conspiracy theorist," which attempts shame people into silence when they are onto something.
If we have to call it redistribution, so be it. We can redistribute wealth without having to take any property from the rich:
1. Raise their taxes to at least the level they were under Clinton, when the economy was humming, and the deficits turned into record surpluses.
2. Do not fall for any further deregulation schemes demanded by any industry. Deregulation is only the first step on the process. it is followed by bankruptcy through legalized crimes, then bailout.
3. Restore the power of unions. Whatever their documented faults and sins of the past, they are the only agent that can represent ordinary workers in the political economy.
4. Invest in infrastructure and cutting edge technology instead of letting countries in Europe and Asia beat us to them.
5. Change the minimum wage into a living wage. It is an abomination that full-time work would still leave a person unable to support his minimal needs.
6. Remove corporate influence from politics entirely.
As to a fraction of y intellect, whatever mine is, there are people who have only a fraction of that. I never offered to name those I identified in this category, and certainly did not aim any such comment at you.
