hi angler, thanks for the reply, no my surname is not huyton, i lived in Huyton before i got married, 1963, then in Poplar grove,Prescot before moving out to Appley bridge, then in 73 out to NZ, and then Aus, Oh i also worked at PBs at Fiberglass, and have been around the Glass Museum at PBs,,, as you say ,a Small World,
hi angler from an ex neighbor of yours, used to live in Prescot ,now in aussie, well the bird in question is definitely an Ibis,
and im sure its a White.or otherwise called a Sacred Ibis.
we have heaps of them around here, they are quite common,
colin, huytoncol.
Thanks VJs for your reply, i must admit that re to wildlife photography, i really think that its being at the right place at the right time ,is what gets a good shot, as a real newy to the game, i think that all the tech knowledge you have , it cant beat that bit of luck, mind you it sure can help.
I was at the right spot to get these two Corellas,,, taken in Queensland Australia
Shes all Mine ,
Didn't you Hear Me
thanks for your reply, yes I was at the right place,at the right time, i have since got some good bird photos, but nothing like this one, i am now a DSLR user but to be honest, i am sure i couldnt get a better shot now than i did with my H/P5mg 3x zoom , and the photo was taken real quick, thanks again, where ever you are
thanks for the reply Dook, but as far as the Goshawk being used to people, you are way out, this is a hunter, with its catch, and no way was it going to surrender it, the first shot i got was as i ran out of my van with the camera on full zoom, 3x, then i got gradually closer, and even after i got the shot you saw, i got even closer, and the only way I could get him away from his prey, was to get my 50kilo rotte x german shepard from the van, and it wasn't until he was ten ft or so from him that he took off. For me it was a terrific
experience, with a good photo as a keep sake,
almost felt like David Attenborough
this photo was taken in the northern territories of australia, on a caravan park we where staying on, the Goshawk had killed the Corella in flight and had brought it down and eaten some of its breast.
what we had to do was get the dead bird away from the Goshawk, and remove it from among the caravaners, as otherwise we would have been over run with brown ants;
this for me is my best bird photo, and i think always will be,
camera was a little point and shoot 5mp H/P and i was only about 6ft away for this shot, for me its the eyes on the Goshawk that make the photo
Goshawk with Prey,a Corella
hi Jean, well im also from aus, down in orbost vic, now what i have found re photographing birds here in Aus, is the bigger the bird the easier to shot, they dont jump about to much ,while smaller birds seem to be rather jumpy, i have a cannon 600d which is similar to your camere, and i always have the camera on burst mode,so i may get more shots than i want, but at least i can delete them, re f stop keep it down around 4 or so, and speed for the lens around 300 or faster.if the bird is in flight ,experiment with faster shutter speeds, its the only way to learn, enjoy the hog i have been a member for a while, and am learning so much from people who do know what they are doing, colin
DOOK,,,Glad your fridge is full,, you will need them to drown your sorrows
Brill our Kid,again you helped me to feel homesick, after your post of the Beatles, and info of Woolton, now this, magic.Colann, originally from Huyton,OH when i worked for the Liverpool Water Board, i was lucky to go down into the very bottom of ST Georges Hall, and it just showed me how rocky the land is, on which Liverpool is built, and just how many natural water channels there are under our City
Thanks Again Briace, Colin
