hi
I am informed it is 2 years !! ( strange to get something MORE here in UK than over the pond there !)

yes I take on board the fact that what I could be buying for half price is essentially the same as the makers supplied battery, but surely the argument put forward about Nikon not honouring the warranty because of 3rd party batteries being used is a valid one ? and reason enough to use 100 % genuine manufactured battery only !

well I was pretty much decided already but this last reply has made up my mind to go for original battery at the best price I can find.
it,s true that after all the time and money invested in the camera, it seems short thrift to skip on what's a vital piece of kit. Graham

wow ! I have opened up quite a can of worms with my question !
I think having read and re read all the reply's a few times,
it,s most likely I will buy from a main dealer at the lowest price for the original product, as i feel the risk and disappointment, not to mention possible damage to camera is worth the £10/15 difference.thank you all for taking the time to share your views and experiences with me !

what a dilemma then, so generic ones could or could not have this chip, I would hate to end up with one tat wouldn't work at all, as that's money down the drain, another sleepless night methinks ! Graham

thank you both for those comments have looked into Amazon, it seems Nikon batteries are to be found at 30% off the RRP and Generic ones half of that, but there are still odd times these wont be recognised by D5100,in fairness lots have bought them without a problem!

I have posted pics, but not ones where I use flash, hence my question about bounced TTL,which if that photo is anything to go by. it looks good for a 20 foot high ceiling !
photos are taken that way at cat shows over here and in the past I have not used any flash at all for 1/fear of spooking the cat and 2/ so I don't have the very flat over bright look you get when using on camera flash ! ( pop up ) the non flash photos are ok when the cat stops still but often the result is blurred because of the big aperture and slowish speed I have to use without any addition lighting. Graham.

Hi again,

I can see a long night ahead here in the UK,I am looking into the those flashes mentioned and they are quite keenly priced both on eBay UK and Amazon UK so its entirely possibly I could end up with one, I am hoping to use the flashgun for defused bounce flash in a cat environment. I am assuming TTL can handle BOUNCE work ok ? Graham

Hi Goofy newfie from across the pond, the fact you find you use it a lot, seems to backup my thoughts about it being best to go for TTL while learning, I didn't know that Canons were not as good TTL wise, I'm wondering why that island if TTL is that good on Nikon, why I would ever want to use flash not set to TTL ? HI Steve R,
that's a very good question and to be honest, I am still wondering if it would be best to go for one with TTL ? for ease of use till I work it all out about flash power and distance etc ! Graham

deffo a typo the word causing this fuss should have been NOW of course. Thank you for your help one UU member was spot on its for Nikon d5100 and I'm pretty sure the lesser spec gun he told us about would fit the bill nicely, thanks again. Graham

Hi

Thanks for all the comments about the Nikon debate, I am not wondering what flash would do a reasonable job without costing the earth, or even a cheaper second hand.
