Hi
Thanks for all the comments about the Nikon debate, I am not wondering what flash would do a reasonable job without costing the earth, or even a cheaper second hand.

Look into the Yongnuo flash for Nikon. I just bought 2 YN Yongnuo 565Ex Canon models for my Canon and like them. But I still have some experimenting to do. The units I bought have the same features as the $500-$600 Canon unit. They were $123 each!! Now I am sure they are not as good in some ways, but they work great for on camera flash and I use a radio trigger for off camera flash. So far so good!

I'm not sure how much power you need or what equipment you're using. With that said, the Nikon SB-400 is a nice compact flash unit that delivers decent results. Can tilt up for bounce flash. Fits in your pocket. Costs around $129.

It was meaning check out the site as new guns come in every week not just what they have today
I went the cheap route, since I have limited need for flash, with the low-end Nikon SB-400. I paid $113 last year and I think the price is still about the same.
To quote our favorite reviewer, Ken Rockwell,
"My SB-400 is a very simple, very high quality flash with all the features I actually use. Other flash features are gimmicks that get in the way of taking pictures."

I don't know why but the American sites, Nikon, Canon always offer much more info than the UK sites.
whenever I look for upgrades (firmware) or info I always use the American sites
