I'm intrigued too.

But I always come back to - How can the Nikon lens be two times the lens of the Tamron? Is the build twice as good? Does it auto focus twice as fast?

I just can't justify Nikons lens pricing.

You are correct when it comes to pricing. There is no doubt that Tamron makes a good product and costs less than Nikon. Personally I have to also look at return on my investment. And when it comes to this issue it is clear that in 5 years the Nikon lens on the used lens market will be worth much more than the Tamron. After market lenses suffer greatly on the used lens market, it is not a knock on image quality, it is what it is. I make money on my equipment, some of my more aware clients are aware of what equipment I shoot with, some not. Many of my clients like the fact I shoot front line lenses, others could care less what I use as long as the results are good. So, I get personal satisfaction using my, Sony, Nikon, and Canon lenses and I get a good return on my investment and some of my clients welcome the brand look of my equipment. For me I choose what lenses my cameras were made for. This is not a knock on Tamron, just an observation.

I have rented the Nikon 70-200 2.8 vrii and without a doubt, love "playing" with this lens. I have NOT rented the Tamron for comparison.

The Nikon version is priced $1,000 over the Tamron, yet Tamron has received excellent reveiws in comparison.

No doubt an investment for me and will keep FOREVER.

Does anyone have any experience with either of the two?

If it is forever, I think you know the answer.

the pictures are nice. Everyone has me second guessing the used camera so I think I will go to my local camera store and purchase a new one making sure it us made in US and has warranty. I would rather wisely spend 1200.00 than blow 900.00.

I always buy my cameras from a local authorized Nikon dealer. I get the same price as B&H with an additional understanding that I wait a month to register, if I am displeased in any way, I return it to them provided it is in the same condition as it was when I walked out of the store with it a month earlier. You just can't beat that service.

There is one on Amazon for 889.00 that is used. Has 90 day warranty. States it was used as a demo in a trade show. Only taken out of the box, never put the battery in it. I think I will take my chances with that one and save the 300.00 for something else. thanks everyone Connie

Bet you even money this is a gray market.

How many Nikons go wrong is the question to ask.

I have bought at least (40) USA Nikons for over 50 years and have never had a problem with any of them. I only buy USA Nikon because they are the official importer of Nikon. My clients would expect nothing less. Of course, there are always cheaper ways of doing things for those that want to roll the dice. You get what you pay for.

People buy the Tamron over Nikon because of price! I guarantee that when nikons 200-500 is available it will be at a very much higher price.

Actually it will be around $1390.00. Not bad for a Nikon considering it is a steady f5.6 throughout the zoom range.

I'm contemplating buying a Tamron 150-600 lens for my Nikon 810. Does anyone have any experience with this lens, good or bad, they'd like to share? I mostly shoot wildlife and landscapes and was hoping this lens would do a good job for me on wildlife and at a reasonable cost. Thanks in advanced for any suggestions or input you might have. Zoso

The Nikon 200-500mm F5.6 will be out shortly, wait for it.

Going to shoot Niagara Falls with a Nikon 3200. Want to purchase a wide angle lens. Is an Add-On wide angle lens any good? What reasonably priced recommendation can anyone provide for my type of camera?

Get a room on Canadian side at Embassy Suites, go to the top floor for a room inspection, go to the window, shoot quickly, tell the person "I will think about the room", leave quickly. Forget getting a lens for one shot.

And Sony alpha mount has done the same with all Minolta af lenses for the last 40 years.

How many nikon dslr lenses will fit on the Nikon 1?

I would just like to point out that the old Minolta glass you mention will not fit E mount Sony cameras just like Nikon glass for the DSLR's will not fit Nikon 1.

It is the same for everyone.

I presently shoot with the Nikon D7200, and am thinking of moving up to full frame. My question is, the D610, or the D750. I do not want to go to the D810, so don't expound on that camera, please. I prefer shooting wildlife, sports action, and landscape, so which camera would you suggest, and why? I do realize that I will need to upgrade my lenses also, but that is another post.

The 750 offers group focus, you pick one spot, for wildlife and birds that might be the center spot, Nikon then puts four focus points around that one, in this focus mode, group focus helps separate your subject from the background, use group focus for moving subjects. I also think the 750 has more stuff than the 610. And, it is currently on sale at B&H. Don't forget the tilt screen, even the D4s does not offer this.

Forget golf clubs. A 75lb barbell would be better. Lift on shoulder like a bazooka for a few hours. That a boy, now your getting the feel of that new lens.

One of the better "balanced" lenses on the A7R II. A Sigma 150-500mm shown extended to 500mm and mounted on the A7R II with a Metabones III adapter:

Autofocus is actually quite good with this combo; about the same as using the lens on my Canon 60D. Good enough for wildlife; probably not birds on wing, although birds on a tree are ok :). Works quite nicely in low light conditions both on a tripod and handheld. For handheld I normally push the ISO to the 800-3200 range, although I've used 12800 with the combo with acceptable (at least I captured a picture) quality.

All EOS to E-mount adapters, however, are not created equal! The Metabones III has been the best one I've tested todate; works with all of my Canon, Sigma and Tamron EOS mount lenses. I have a Metabones IV on order.

The Kenko 1.4x teleconverter also works with the Metabones III and passes lens info from all my Canon lenses but only works in manual mode with my Sigma and Tamron lenses.

I've also tested a few other adapters. The Commlite adapter does not pass any Sigma lens info to the camera and does not like my older Canon lenses but works reasonably well with new Canon lenses. The Fotodiox adapter, my newest, sporadically hangs with the Sigma lens and older Canon lenses but works quite well with newer Canon lenses. The King adapter, the first one I acquired, works well with my newer Canon lenses but does not like Sigma, Tamron or older Canon lenses. Strangely the Commlite & King adapters work better with my A7S & A7 II than they do with the A7R II?

When an adapter/lens combo is working well the autofocus is about the same speed as (a touch slower than) native lenses on the A7R II. This is a HUGE improvement over adapted lenses on the A7S, A7R and A7 II, where autofocus was slower than manual focus!

Just a few notes/comments...

I agree with what you have written. I would just like to add that I am an action photographer. The adapters with lens attached lose many focus points on this camera and focusing is MUCH slower. The camera is super and super sharp but until Sony adds lenses to this system I will watch and wait.

Got to give it to Sony. They really scored with this one.

This Sony is so tempting. If only they had a decent selection of long lenses and flashes.

Hope Nikon does something similar while I'm still able to hold a camera.

And wouldn't it be great if the Nikon camera took all of the current Nikon lenses.
