As an event/wedding/musical performance ‘tog, I find that my 17-35mm f2.8 lens is one of my most valuable lenses, especially in tightly crowded venues. Table shots, large groups, effects, etc.
I do also have the latest dslr version of the nikon trinity lenses, which means that I also have the 14-24mm f2.8. But I don’t use that lens as often, really not much at all.
Because, it’s wider than I usually need and too short at 24mm on the long end. The 24-35mm range is a big benefit that the 14-24 lacks.
Ymmv!

Make sure that you only use OEM genuine inks from the manufacturer.

I plan on using a TTL cord with a stand

Then you need a native canon version. It’s a great flash. And the pb960 battery pack easily lasts for 1500 ttl exposures, which I do a few times a week. It hasn’t let me down yet.
It is heavy, be prepared for that.
But, it is the most powerful “shoe mount” flash extant.
Lately I’ve been using the ad200pro, with the head extension cable, as I mentioned. It is also terrific, but it puts out about 2/3rd of a stop less light than the Ad360ii. Which is really not that much. But the weight difference is big. I am 63 years old, so although the 360 never bothered me, I do notice the difference with the 200.
Best of luck with your purchase.
I really do recommend that you get a Godox trigger, that will give you one less cable, and so much easier and better control of the flash, over using the TTL cable. Big difference.
You can usually get a used one off of eBay for around $25-30. It’s worth it. Big time.

I have an Ad360ii for nikon, but with Godox, if you use a canon trigger on your cameras, and use the flash in a bracket or OCF, it will function as if it’s native to canon.
I would never put that flash in the hot shoe, for two reasons, first, it’s way to heavy for the cameras hot shoe, and secondly, you do use a bracket, right??? I never shoot flash that’s not on a bracket, my bracket of choice being the bbx and bbgv2, from promediagear.
I have been shooting pro, for almost 40 years. I started with a custom made “Tony Armato” bracket.
(New York and the tri state area’s pros all used Armato brackets, back in the day)
And since then I own and have used many different brackets, see the photo, and the Promediagear’s are my favorite and what I use. I have a few of each styles, dedicated to different flash units.
For example, I have two brackets that are dedicated to the Ad360ii and ad200 pro with the ec200 head extension cable. Each bracket has the appropriate cable attached the their respective brackets, in a manner that keeps the cable straight and out of the way when I shoot.

Theehmann, I use gitzo, manfrotto and I even still have a few tiltall tripods, made by leitz, too.
The manfrotto uses quick release clips, as opposed to the rotating locks on the gitzo and many others.
You may want to check those out.
And, also, there are many terrific tripods available preowned, from eBay, KEH, MPB, roberts/upp, etc.
a lot of these, for sale, tripods were rarely used, and you can get a mint condition set of sticks for a much more reasonable price, compared to new.
Do make sure that you purchase from a dealer who allows returns.

I found a suggested change of behavior recently, something I've started following. Place the camera on too of the strap when laying on a surface. The number of times I've had the strap catch on something when grabbing the camera or passing by the camera, I can't believe it took until just the past 6-months to make this change.

I always cringe, when I see someone leave a strap hanging off an edge. I know that the strap will invariably catch on the corner of the table or somewhere else.
And as you are picking it up, when the strap does catch, the camera gets pulled out of your hand and falls.
It was one of my first lessons, when I used to teach photography.

Every time I see these lenses, they evoke the memories of shooting with a nikkormat ftn, and Nikon f photomic ftn. Those lenses look so much like the Nikon lenses from the 70’s, which were built so well, that most are still available and in perfect working condition. Good times!!
Of course these new lenses, have better coatings, construction and optical formulae. (I presume).
Enjoy them and happy shooting.

Hi, I personally consider the lens hood to be a full time necessity.
Not only are my lens hoods ALWAYS mounted on every lens, they are mounted in the proper direction. I see lots of ‘togs, outside with the lens hood on, in the storage position. This makes absolutely no sense to me.
Not only does the hood help with the quality of your image, whether outside or even inside, but it also provides protection to the front of the lens.
As a working pro, for more that 40 years, I have had my lens hoods “protection” come in handy, more than a few times. At busy events or concerts, I have been “hip checked” into walls, displays, and people.
Twice, I have needed to replace a hood, but I have never had any damage to the lens, filter or front element.
I know that a few times, if the hood wasn’t there, it would have been really bad.
And as I mentioned, and, most importantly, the hood reduces glare and restores contrast that would be lost.
Even with flash. Since I would never take a flash photo, without using a bracket (all of mine are promediagear boomerang’s), I never have to worry about any blockage from any hood.
It only has pros, without cons, so why would you not use it???

Check out the promediagear version of the spider holster. It has a much lower profile, so no one can see the two of them that I wear every single day. One on each hip.
They are so convenient. I have been using them for a few years, and it is second nature to drop a camera into the holster, without looking. And no, I have never missed or dropped a camera. As mentioned in my earlier post, I often carry a 70-200 FL-e lens, attached to a peak design capture lens, and that has a round headed pin, and that hangs on my left side. I can swap the lens from the body, to the capture lens, and then attach the lens that was on the capture lens, on to the body, all with one hand, and no surface is necessary.
If you look at my post above, with the two photos, you will see me carrying a D850, 24-70 vr, promediagear boomerang bracket with a Godox Ad360ii and the pb960 battery pack, on my right side, and a d810 with 17-35, v860II flash, also on a boomerang bracket, and also attached to battery pack, this one was a quantum turbo sc.
In addition, each camera had a nikon battery grip installed, and they both also had Godox triggers on them.

While I have over 120,000 clicks on my D850 and about 20k clicks on my d810, (back up camera), I actually do have over 32,000 photos on my iPhone. Although, they don’t compare to the Nikon’s cameras, which are always with me, but, the phone is very easy to use, and to share photos from.
I believe that each have a purpose and a place in my kit of tools.
