I'm curious as to what lens most people use on their D 810's. I may be only dreaming but I'm going to run it by my chief financial officer about upgrading from my D7200 and I'm looking at the D810. I see it most often paired with the 24-120. That seems short as I use the 18-200 on my D 7200. Any opinions would be appreciated.

I have a 24-120 for my D810. It has a nice zoom range and fairly sharp. I find the Samyang 24 stays on more these days.

Went to a family birthday party yesterday. Took the 5d MIII and flash. Began shooting and the flash seemed erratic. Missed many"good shots". Checked settings, ... everything seemed OK. After about 2 hours and experiencing the flash still being erratic, I discovered it was not seated completely in the hot shoe. DUH!! DUH!!! DUH!!! OH well, one more learning experience. I'm 81! Is there a time, other than after departing this Earth, I might exhaust my DUH's?

There are many pictograph and petroglyphs in Sego Canyon that have been damaged including this one. What gets me is people who mark the art! Fences are not the answer, only education can deal with vandalism. I realize that you can't teach everyone and there will be damage from people.

I have one on Nikon D810 and it fits well, but I did trim a bit around the left top dial and the buttons work well. It covers the camera very well and protects from dings.

Nikon batteries and Watson seem similar, Wasabi charge not last as long.

While quick and easy, the bayonet type hood mounts I’ve had experience with will eventually wear to the point they lose their integrity. Once the mount has worn to the point it can be knocked loose of the detent, there’s no way of restoring the original integrity short of replacing the hood and hood mounting flange on the lens. I’ve just resorted to using screw mount hoods on the lenses that have that issue.

When this happens to my lens hoods I place a drop of Super Glue on the lens hood (with it off the lens) where the prongs stick out and it restores the friction and stays on the lens.

I am hoping to join friends this summer on some kayaking adventures. This will be all new to me. Also, it will be on small rivers...no whitewater. My question to you is, if you are a kayaker, what do you bring for a camera? One of my photographer friends does not bring any of her good cameras or lenses. They seem to have small waterproof cameras for kayaking. All I can think of is the photographic opportunities I would be missing! (Lots of wildlife up here.) All of my gear is insured but that doesn't mean I want to risk it getting dunked.
So, what do you do...dry bag with bigger camera & lens or small waterproof camera? And, if you have a small waterproof camera, how does that work for you? Brand of waterproof camera recommendation?

Thanks for any advice on this.

Marsha

Have been involved with whitewater river guiding for over 27 years. When I bring a DSLR it's inside a Watershed dry bag which are expensive but they work really well and last much longer than roll top dry bags. Also I have an Olympus TG-4 that is waterproof that I clip to my PFD which is handy and produces nice images considering. You want to have gear accessible easily.

Storing on CDs
I have been storing my photos on CDs with only 4.7 GB. I was wondering if anyone has moved on to the Blu-ray CD writer to store their photos? I shoot raw and the small CDs just doesn’t hold many pictures. I am not sure if I can even use a Blu-ray for my pictures. I do have a raid system for back up but was always told to copy Pix on a CD. I don’t want to lose anything. Looking for any suggestions. Thanks in advance

Blu-Ray seems the way to go, more storage and seemingly the most stable, but that's what they say about everything!

Do a review search for New Leaf Warranty, they seem to have a trail of dissatisfied customers, maybe too good to be true?
