Awesome shots

The runner sliding into the base is really, really good. I love the dust kicked up by both players

Not only does it look like runner had him beat, but foot was not near the bag. I think the eyes are just an unfortunate “mid blink”

Great composition on this set

Nice job. Glad you are able to get out and shake the rust off

HS sports here starting back up. Looks like we will be able to watch once my vaccine cycle is done (another 3 weeks). Can’t wait to shoot again

My uncle, a Marine World War II wounded veteran of the South Pacific, mainly Peleliu, died a few months ago at the age of 97 from Covid.

His ashes will be interred in Arlington in the simplest of their three ceremonies. If anyone has been to a ceremony, can you tell me the best way to photograph the whole service without being disrespectful to it? Is there any part that absolutely should be shot?

Thanks

Hi, Given @Just Fred’s note that there are official photographers, consider talking to them about any shots you want to be sure they get. Then consider letting go and just being a participant. There are times to be a photographer, and there are times to “hire” others and be a solid support for your family. You will then be in the pictures as well for the family. JMHO.

Love the goalie shot, though it does look like it got by him.

Use export in the file menu and send the selected photos to another folder, from there you can drag and drop. Alternatively use share in the file menu and send them to say email.

My spouse uses Mac Photos. This is a correct answer (may be others, but this works reliably). I keep a folder named “photo export” on her desktop. Export from Photos to it. Do what I need to (email, post to smugmug, etc). When done, I clear the folder.

this way I don’t mess with the native photos structure.

Fred nailed it above. It just restricts the near end focus, which does improve (shorten) as the lens will not go all the way back to zero.

If you use BBF in continuous mode (and I know you do Jules), it likely will not make much of a difference except when you first push the BBF button.

Grew up there. Still have a camp near Meredith. Consider NH my “home” and Vermont being “temporarily displaced”

Thanks. Will give it a try. I had assumed that I had to have the bbf pressed to enable focus points.

Richard

I have a D7200 and use BBF. The focus system needs to be activated to see where you are moving the points, but you do not need to hold the BBF (AE/AF) button continuously while moving them.

Also of note is that BBF does make it easy to focus on the object you want, let you thumb off the button (I have mine set up to freeze there), recompose, and shoot. This does make it a bit easier to use the prime focus points in the center of the field (including single point) without having the scroll through points.

Good luck

If you want to go FF, sounds like a great deal on a great camera. There was not a negative comment above.

The DX lens issue is a concern. You can a) live with the vingetting- likely not a long or short term option, and b) use the D750 in DX mode, but with the noted MP reduction -again - likely not a good long term option but workable for short run, or c) sell the D5000 and lens and use the proceeds to buy a good FX lens or two.

If you are switching over to FX, you will want, i would think, to move in this last direction.

Good luck, and, should you choose door #3, PM me on the D5000. The stimulus checks are giving me GAS and I like buying used/refurb equipment.

Love them.

You always remind us that some of the best shots are not always the action and sometimes just show us the “love of the game”. My fav in this set is the B&W of the one player on the bench.

Great shots. I only wish I could be so “rusty” I am also jealous of the court side. To get that close to filling the frame, I am normally shooting 150mm

I am really amazed that these froze at 1/320. I would have thought at the college level you would have needed to be north of 1/800

Nice work
