I need some help.
About a week ago we had a short 5- or 10-minutes power outage about 4:30 in the morning. Naturally everything in the house went black, including my wifi connection. I was awakened by the sound of the house powering back up and naturally found my desktop computer had shut down and, apparently, unharmed. However, my laptop, which operate off a battery had not shutdown and I had a difficult time “waking it up, logging on to the internet, and a bigger surprise trying to get into my external storage. After running CCleaner a couple of times, spybot search and destroy I managed to get into my external storage only to find that a good deal of it’s contents were missing. After a good deal of effort, I managed to run Rescuva recovery program… the program wouldn’t load unless the external storage device was disconnected then when it would download it would not recognize the device. Finally, everything connected, and I manage to retrieve less than half of my files… mostly. those that aren’t really that important (Family and grand-kids photos). Now wanting to separate the visible photo from those represented red Xs… I was thinking of running Rescuva on the red Xs to see what would happen. The recovered photos will not transfer to another file. In addition, about this time I started getting ads from AVG telling me that several of my drivers are out of date and for a mere $2 something a month they would update my drivers. I don’t know if this is coincidental but one of the drivers was for accessing external hardware... are they the cause of my problems?
I have also downloaded Wondershare recovery software; however, I have been unsuccessful in getting this program to open since installing it.
SO, I now stand with a bunch of “recovered files (photos) that I can’t seem to move to another location and I can’t locate any of the files that I really care about. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
