I was thinking about replies from those with practical experience - the software applications, perhaps some 'how to', etc.

Many applications are 'complicated' and the sequence of which tools to use first - etc. - last can affect the results obtained. Little tips and tricks here could provide great help for many of us.

Maybe some guidelines for users to be more specific in their 'titles' and opening questions - tell all of us what you have (hw/sw), what kind of pictures you work on, specific problems troubling you and what you are trying to achieve.

It seems that most postings seem to lack specifics about the photographer/subject/etc. and what they are trying to accomplish. A pointed question with good background info would help get to a useful answer for the OP as well as all of us who read it.

Good ideas! Guidelines that head toward providing enough info to generate useful responses! In addition to what you suggest perhaps items that should be included in an initial post such as the program, version, the details about the computer (or printer, paper, etc... as relevant) being used, the camera used in capture, the image in if there is one (using store original), etc... You know that things the keep getting asked but not answered during the first three pages of some of these threads.

It adds a bit of levity. I don't see anything snarky about it.

Too many people on UHH and about the world look for negatives where none exist. It is a sorry mind set and we can see the results on the evening news seven days a week. Try on one of these:

Maybe Mr. Meltz could change his picture to one of him smiling. He doesn't look very friendly, does he?

Well Bill, as regards your photo, I will paraphrase Lamont Cranston;
"Who knows what evil lurks in the avatars of men?
The Shadow knows."
(Speaking of interesting photo choices)
Of course now I want to replace my photo with one that shows my age#!

If you do find software that automatically removes blemishes my prediction is that it would be a liability. Things like blemishes need to be assessed individually and dealt with accordingly. I would advise against total removal of blemishes unless specifically requested to do so since it could cause offense.

My advice would be to have a look at presets, filters, automatic adjustments etc and try to work out what they're doing, then learn how to replicate the effects manually. No matter how clever the programming, there will be times when automatic adjustments will not be appropriate. The trouble is, if you become dependent on automatic adjustments your own learning process will stagnate. On the other hand if you learn how to do things yourself you'll be able to optimise every portrait that you work on.

My understanding is that Lr is geared up for giving professionals what they need and a large part of that is adjustments for portraits. I believe that was the inspiration behind the Vibrance tool and the Healing tool. So if you already have Lr you're off to a good start and you have a good learning tool to work with.

I get you.
But, for some, having it done automatically and then seeing how hard it is to back track automated adjustments is all part of the learning process.

If the camera body has been photographed for an advertisement, as in “buy me,” I think seeing the exposed mirror raises the level of excitement more than seeing a body cap on the front of the camera.

While there was a good discussion on seeing more through photography, it also can reveal too much. I recently took an informal photo of my cousin while we were working outside and noticed some blemishes I hadn’t seen before.

We have a responsibility to use our skills to do simple retouching before sending out the photo as it could end up anywhere on the internet as they may share it.

A simple technique in Photoshop is to set the paintbrush to about 20% hardness for soft feathering, opacity to around 10% and apply to the the blemish until it’s blotted out just enough. The color is picked from an area near the blemish with the desired color and shading.

This is also great for blotting out shiny areas.

Or using a brush effect in LR.

I view focus stacking as being more useful in the scientific field where minute detail is a priority rather than in photography as an art form. It’s one of those techniques we have like silky water. We do it because we can. Others can disagree with me or not.

The two are NOT mutually exclusive. Sometimes art is in the details.

It would be better if you just did a Google search. T<snip>

Or (after googling and finding canned and largely useless info) they could ask this question on a site with experienced photographers willing to share knowledge gained from years of experience.

Now where could a site like that be found? Hmmmmmmm?

I am starting to do more portrait shoots and find myself spending a lot of time manually editing in Lightroom and Photoshop for blemishes, skin tone, etc.
What is the best software to purchase for Lightroom/Photoshop that can automate a lot of this process? And is it worth it or do you find manual post work better?

Have you tried the soften skin effect with a brush in LR?

But Portrait Pro is having a 50% off sale. https://www.anthropics.com/portraitpro/

The admin asked me to narrow the support as otherwise it would become a free for all computer support.

Issue raised by the software (I as I see them rather simply) are
- Upgrade components (disk/memory)

- Display choices
- Accessories (tablets)
- Tethering issue
- ...

OK. So pretty much everything. But not the bag you carry your laptop in.

Which is fine. I mean I think I understand. Software.... and hardware to the extent that it does or does not support the software effectively.

Too many failed sections based on usage. Maybe, because you can get answers instantly by just learning how to use Google.

Thanks,
It would be nice to have the computing related questions in one place. Also, being in a separate section should help to keep topic hijacking down.

However, the name is in a bit of conflict with what you have posted here. The title indicate support for both computer issue and software issues. Your statement seems to indicate only software issues and computer issues related to particular software. The title would invite the various system upgrade questions while your statement seems to exclude them.
