I'm looking to take a trip to conowimgo dam to photograph eagles and was wondering if some spots are better than others for photography. I'm unsure if I want to pull my Rv there, its only 2.5 hours away or get a room. Anyone know good places to stay. It's just me so I just need a place to sleep. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks ,
Mike
During "the season", parking spots tend to fill up quickly. A pulled RV may be problematic. There is a fairly large area for viewing/photographing that, also, can get somewhat crowded but if you can set-up within the sea of tripods, views are excellent.
The road leading down to the parking lot is kinda twisty turns and steep. Don't know how big your RV is so bear that in mind. When I go I stay in the bottom third of the parking lot some what near the island that's about 75-100 yards off shore. Don't know about where to stay but check out Havre de Grace. Very scenic.
Just curious, what is the “season” at Conowingo and how does it differ from Off Season?

I would say that Conowingo is NOT place to take an RV. The road to the river is, as one said, rather twisty. My opinion is that towing an RV would be a bit difficult. During the "season" - October, November - that place is filled - get there before 4:00AM if you want a good parking spot.

Roughly Thanksgiving til Christmas, give or take.
I have made several trips to Conowingo Dam. There are several good hotels in Aberdeen with a number of good restaurants. I would not recommend pulling an RV to the Dam. I like to go early in the morning. I think the birds are more active at that time. Take the longest lens you have available.
The "Dam" is super active right now. The shad run has started up the river so fishing opportunities are great for the birds. The rookery for the Great Blue Herons is in full swing. There are great opportunities for Eagles fishing, fighting and soaring. Can get very crowded on the weekends.

We go every year and stay in Aberdeen. Fisherman's pier is a good ace if it is open and the water is low. Always find out what turbines they're opening. When the large one open water rises very fast. People have lost chairs coolers even camera gear to the rising water. We go the week after eagle day

We were talking about going back during the shad run
I have been twice in the past month. During the week there has been easy parking. 10 days ago the morning sun was right in our faces. Afternoon and early evening was much better. Lots of eagle activity. A small RV would fit in the first bit of park long lot near the entrance. I would go daily if I lived close. It’s addicting.
thanks,
if I took an rv I would leave it at a camp site. I'll look for a motel. Thanks all for great advice
Do they still operate the shuttle back and forth to the parking area at the top of the hill? If so, the RV would be no problem.

The shuttle has not run. Probably because of COVID concerns.
